Could anybody help with this? I want to change the coil as I am getting a rubber taste also. The glass tank has always been a bugger to remove but now it seems well and truly jammed

Rubber gloves or elastic bands, either really helps with this sort of thing

See if you can tighten the top cap down slightly. Because of the threading it should loosen the base for you.

Done it! Had to get the teeth involved though! Thanks for advice, I'll keep note for the next time it happens. The coil was really jammed in to. Is this a common problem, very high build quality, but poor threading? Maybe it was just a bad coil.

It's happened to me once, think it is just a case over over-tightening salvadorseghir. A pair of rubber gloves and a bit of brute force sorted it for me, just remember to try not to screw it together after filling, too tight Glad you got it sorted.
