Today, after several years without an infestation programme on our apartment complex (due to mis-management) the grounds got fumigated at long last. Problem now is we are under seige by ANTS millions of the little blighters - they've been coming out of the walls in my apartment all flippin day. I've had to spray the whole place with insecticide, pull all the furniture out and mop the floor with an insecticide floor cleaner, wash all the tiles in the bathroom & utility room with the same floor cleaner, all the door surrounds with the same cleaner, it's been absolute murder in my place today. I went to go to the loo (as you do) and there were even ants all around the inside of the toilet pan good job I looked first otherwise I could literally have said "I've got ants in me pants" We've also lately been over-run with cockroaches (normal for Tenerife albeit on a smaller scale) & massive big 8 legged spiders (never before seen in Tenerife) so hopefully they will have been eradicated by the fumigation programme carried out today. Anyway, just thought I'd share my little problem. See, it's not always such fun living here

Get to B&Q or Wilkinsons and grab some ant powder (Derris Dust is even better). Spread some powder out in places where you notice them in and out. The powder doesn't kill instantly. The idea is they pick it up on their legs and feet and take it back to their nests, where they will indulge in some communal cleaning and spread the poison throughout the nest. It may take a while, but it's effective.
Chemical Warfare, yay!!!

Oo-er Ripshod my nearest B & Q shop is around 2,000 miles away Can't seem to find any of that ant powder over here, we've looked before for something like that but they don't seem to do it here. Maybe I can get someone to bring some out with them when they're due to fly over, so that I have some in stock ready for the next infestation. I'm hoping my insecticide floor cleaner will have helped today though but I how long it will last before I have to do it all again.

Haha, yeah but we don't normally get these things, well not ones that are almost the size of tarantulas (dunno how to spell that) any spiders we get are usually just little tiny things, nuffink like what we've been getting just of late. These things have BIG hard bodies too and they run real fast on those 8 thick long legs - the first time one ran indoors I couldn't believe the size of the thing it ran in and I ran out

My bad Yeah the floor cleaner will probably help. It'll kill them but the nest will survive. You'll be constantly using it. My ignorance just showed through, Tenerife is a looooong way from B&Q. I'm a dumb**s, forgive me.

Ripshod this particular floor cleaner, it's supposed to work in a way that once put down the ants will not go on it, that's why I've also done all the wall tiles & door surrounds with it as well as the floor tiles. For an infestation you use 7 capfuls of the stuff in water initially, and then when you mop the floor again after that you just use 3 capfuls in water, that's supposed to be the idea behind this insecticide floor cleaner. It's more expensive than normal floor cleaner but if it works then that's ok. Oh, and I forgive you

I have a story about one of these huge spiders. I was housesitting, and my friend said watch out for Harry. He only comes out late at night in the living room and sits watching telly. ???
A couple of nights go by, then one night I am in the living room with the tv on low, suddenly I see something, in the middle of the floor infront of the tv is the biggest spider I have ever seen. I left everything on and got out.
The following night I though right, they have a baseball bat at the side of the door, so I armed myself with that and sat with the tv on low. I didn't see where he came from, but there he was sat watching telly. I stood close to the door, and whacked him as hard as I could, right over the head. A few seconds passed then he set off running towards me. I got out of there quick slamming the door behind me.
