sammy13 If you using those two that mrs mac sent you then they're the ones I sent her, I may have been vaping HoL juice when I packed them Joking aside, did you wash/boil them? that should help with any off flavours but apart from that I can't think of any other reason. You've got me thinking now, maybe being stored in a home of a HoL tobacco vaper has impregnated them!! I wouldn't notice after all. Lol, I didn't do anything with them other than thread them through a coil.
Look back a few pages , it has been suggested that perhaps my 1.8mm coil is too small??
Yep, but I think you would get a singed/burnt taste from that rather than a smokey one.

sammy13 I understand, thought we all had the same two. My results might be to do with my juice as much as anything, all PG Hangsen USA mix which gunks up coils quit quickly. If the cotton isn't scorched after you have vaped a tank full the only idea I have is to boil it a couple of times, don't know if that will help as it would expect two different cottons have slight different taste if its something on/in the cotton.

smifee mine were great for flavour and wicking, I think I scorched the tape as it was too tight in the coil I put it in (2 mm).

Thought this Cotton Wick Wiki might be of interest. The Sugar and Cream yarn can be found here From what I've read the white No 0001 is the one to use.

I've been following the updates on everyone's experiences with the different tapes. sammy13 is getting a smokey taste and I wasn't until tonight when I changed to a fresh wick. Daughter in law came round and I told her about the taste and she said "That'll be the dressing." When I said "So I need to get undressed." she left. So I'll be following VapingBad and boiling mine. I'm only using the wider one and I hope it doesn't shrink or I'll be back where I started - digging out the cotton wool balls. I've only had scorched wicks when I used double thickness of the Rico because one was too loose on a 2mm coil.

Having done a quick internet search and come up with sodium hydroxide, peroxide & soda ash as thing used to treat/dress cotton I think I'll be boiling it twice. Read a tip to run the pan under fresh water before pulling the cotton out so as to avoid dragging the cotton through all the grot you've just boiled out of it.

It maybe a 'size' applied to the cotton, hence the problem with wetting. I believe it will boil out. All this talk of off tastes and boiling, not to mention the problems of bleaching and dyes got me searching and I found what seems ideal £12.50 for 137m I think this is the same at £10.99 Colour 'Bone'

@scooby that's very kind of you , much appreciated. It will give me a chance to try it before I go hunt down my own supply. VapingBad thanks for that info, I did find a Hobbycraft shop and had a quick look, no wonder I couldn't find any.

I think I also experience a similar taste to sammy but I usually vape past it, once you've broken it in so to speak which is usually about half a tank fill so maybe 1.5-2ml, the flavour hits you with a punch and it's smooth sailing on out wards. I would probably recommend boiling to be honesty as may e that will help with the initial taste. I got my hands on two balls of the 100 % cotton yarn that I linked to several pages back and it is indeed natural! So natural that I am having no luck boiling out the flavour, you open the bag and it smells like a farm MrMac has the Rico stuff and although he ain't got a clue about wicking has asked me to set up a mini the same as the large tank because it don't taste as good (he has silica and a stock coil in the mini and a micro and Rico in the large lol) Currently using them in 2mm coils. I also grit my teeth and got some of the stuff from the first post on ebay and it actually is quite good as well albeit not such a good price but as I said, I have a sneaky feeling he is purchasing peaches and cream from America and have contacted a vendor to get some at the end of the month
