With Christmas on the way the scams are starting to apear. Below is one that i think you should be aware
A card is posted through your door from a company called PDS ( parcel delivery service) suggesting that they was unable to deliver a parcle and that you need to contact them on 0906 6611911 ( premium rate) DO NOT CALL this number as this is a mail scam originating from belize. If you call this number and hear a recorded message you will have been billed £315 for the call.
If you receive a card with these details on please contact royal mail fraud team on 0107 239 6655

Daz, that particular scam was put an end to several years ago It's kind of become an urban myth & the warnings that go out every year show the amount charged for the call to go ip in leaps & bounds. From memory, the actual amount before the scam was stopped was £15. However, it's always a good idea to let folks know about in case someone starts up a similar type of scam

Whilst I agree with you that this is a scam you cannot be billed for £315 immediately. 0906 numbers are charged at 60p a minut from a landline, yes it will be much higher from a mobile. If you google 0906 scam you'll see plenty of stories all similar to the above, a thread on the Money Saviong Expert Forum here forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php?t=294447This email is sort of like a chain letter and has been doing the rounds since 2005. Another site to check is www.hoax-slayer.com/pds-phone-scam.html(edit) You can only be charged for the UK part of the call no matter where the call goes to therefore the highest you will ever pay is £1.49 a minute I believe. Like when you go on holiday and someone calls you on your mobile, they will pay the same price if you have a UK based mobile not an international call charge.

Daz,
Thanks for the heads up. Any advice about exercising caution with potential phone/internet scams is always helpful. There are always people looking for ways of ripping us off, and they are becoming more subtle and convincing in their methods.

Thanks Daz - we can always do with a reminder about all types of scam. Google is your friend if you're not sure whether something is legit or not. Snopes is always a good site to visit. When I receive a 'scam' email I forward it as an attachment (preferred), or simply forward the email to : scams@fraudwatchinternational.com It only takes a second or two and helps to catch the boogers who want to divest us of our hard-earned. Tis a jungle out there! Never reply to a dodgy email, even in temper, as doing so confirms to the fraudsters that your email account is active. Fox www.fraudwatchinternational.com/

fair point from Daz to make us realise that there are a lot of bogus companies / people out there , but as has been mentioned one of the best ports of call is hoax slayer .. I think they are one of the most up to date sites on scams and hoaxes , moreso at this time of year when .. maybe our defences are down whilst we scour the internet for xmas bargains ... this is probably the most important time to be aware
