Mine comes from the modal scale system - I worked in jazz music for a few years. As the musos out there undoubtedly know, the ionian mode sounds exactly like a major scale - so it's the least exotic mode to western ears, a bit plain and boring, which when filled with self-deprecation I felt was apt.

I started using it as my name on the internet about 8 years ago when playing an online racing game called Trackmania, and it's stuck ever since.

Many many many years ago, the niece of one of my close friends used to call me Lairey Clairey, Claire being my name Her entire family started calling me Lairey and it kinda stuck for a while. I started using it as my internet moniker and haven't changed it in about 20 years!

Years back -- like 15 years ago when Yahoo chat rooms existed? I got the internet and 1st step is add 'nickname' Everything I tried was already used, one suggestion was favourite childhood book and I remembered the Mrs Pepperpot books by the Norwegian author Alf Prøysen, so Mrs Pepperpot I ended up being! I didn't like being called 'mrs' by chat room members so it got foreshortened to 'Pep' and I've used a version of it ever since in my email, social networks, forums etc

My name derives from an A2 jacket I own (my avatar), there are only 3 other jackets that share the same design in existence which myself, my brother and 2 friends wear for 1940's re-enacting events.

mine weird story but here goes birth name Ronald but hate it prefer Ronnie because when I was 4 years old I was playing football in my mothers garden with a Ronald and I kicked the ball onto the road and Ronald ran out and splatt he was no more
I took it badly because everyone in the estate knew I was a murderer and always reminded me so as I was growing up if anybody called me Ronald I hit them and I mean hit them hard enough to do damage it was well engrained in me I was obsessed I could not help myself it did not matter who it was if they called me Ronald I just hit them
so one day when my nephew was getting married and the whole family has been warned his wife said do you fancy a pint Ronald o so she got away with it and a cuddle instead then everyone started calling my Ronaldo as it was a way for them to talk to me without getting a bat so the name was born
and I bet you all thought it was to do with that ponce that plays football didn't you

'Chykensa' means 'first house' in Cornish. We moved house when I was 8 and our new house was built before No. 1 so had to have a name rather than a number. We then moved to another house which had no name, and as it was the first in a close, we used the same name again.
