Wow - some fantastic replies. (Clever/ironic). First up, just to show solidarity with vicuk - SNAKES. After that... ?? Heights? Needles? In all seriousness, mine would probably be heights, not the can't go up a ladder kind, but the can't go up in a cable car up mount Teide (in Tenerife) kind of heights! My OH said I went a nice shade of green going up, mainly because it was damn windy going up and rocking about all over the shop! I even thought about walking back down the whole of the 12000 metres but finally plucked up the courage to go back down in the cable car though, luckily it was less windy. I couldn't look out of the window the whole way down though.

Ok seriously: mind deteriorating faster than my body, my dad had alzheimer's and it was like he left this world ten years before his body which was awful in its self, but the strain on my mother who he was devoted to was even worse. I don't want to do that to the ones I love, sometimes I would think that an early demise from smoking might be a good thing. It's not guaranteed, but is hereditary, so who knows what the future holds and if I see it coming I'll take care of myself.

Exactly the same as you CaptainChaos I am utterly terrified of wasps - I even make sure to mention it at job interviews as my reaction can be quite extreme if one takes me by surprise. My wasp "radar" is pretty finely honed, I will know there is a wasp around long before anyone else knows - by which time I'm usually out the door and several rooms away from it sometimes with a shriek, sometimes at a dead run. I have actually tried to overcome my phobia the problem is that I have good reason to be phobic after an incident with one when I was about 8 or 9 years old which resulted in me being stung badly somewhere unusual and VERY painful. I've had hypnosis and phobia therapy, this worked to the point where I can actually see a wasp through glass and even put my finger against it - but I cannot do that without fear nor could I ever get that close without there being a solid barrier between us. People told me over and over again the fear of the sting is probably ten times worse than an actual sting, and indeed a couple of years ago I was in fact stung by a wasp and it wasn't as bad as it was when I was a child - but then again it wasn't in the same place as I was stung then and I damned well know that it would hurt every bit as bad if I were ever stung there again so that argument is never going to work on me.

snow - mine started when I was a kid on holiday in a place in South Devon called Bigbury. Great holiday until I had a 99 ice cream, and a wasp had crawled into the cone. Ice cream went on top. Lick, lick lick lick etc. crunch, sting Wasps are evil & pointless. I love bees, but wasps can **** OFF!!!! and at wibble "ninja thing" - yeah like an out of control vertical helicopter dance

CaptainChaos I was stung inside my ear - minding my own business out playing on roller skates, went past a buddleia bush in the garden one flew off the bush and straight into my ear and I was screaming like an air raid siren as it was buzzing so loud and then the sting, my father thought I was being murdered, he came running by which time I was hysterical, the sting was stuck just at the entrance to my ear canal and the wasp was still attached, he managed to flick it out but the back bit broke off (fecking feel sick just typing this) took me straight to A&E Barry Hospital by which time it had all swollen up and they had a hell of a job trying to make sure they'd got all the stinger out. I had the worst ear ache EVER and all my glands swelled up it affected my eye and my ear for weeks. I also had horrendous nightmares for years kept remembering the horrible buzzing right by/in my ear. I hate the damned things and I hate buddleia bushes too - one of my neighbours has one and it keep seeding itself in my garden so every year I go annihilate it. *shudders*
