So basically, get 0.3 kanthal for the best results!? Also if you Microcoil as the coils are touching & the resistance will be lower. Is that really true? Not according to this calculator It varies, but by a tiny amount both less and more resistance depending on the spacing. @scooby You are right! I just did a little experiment and made a coil but did not heat and push the coils together and measured the resistance. I then heated it and made it into a micocoil and there was virtually no difference!

The main thing is the length of the wire, so if you have loose coils and not tightly wrapped around your chosen drill bit...lets say a 2mm drill bit and you coil it loosely the wraps become over 2mm...hence the longer the wire.

I would have thought the coils would "short" together in a microcoil and lower he resistance but it seems that is not the case, even on a well heated microcoil, how interesting!

Yep but for the same length of wire it makes no difference whether they are micro coiled or spaced apart. I was under the inpression like DiscoDes that the resistance would change if the coils were touching, that was until I played with the calculator. Good to see it Proved in practice.

Making the coil nice and tight and close together also gives a better all-round even heat distribution, doing it differently would make it just a basic coil.

And another thing i forgot to add microcoils have less of a chance for hot spots. And they last longer and because they are sturdier, re-wicking them is much much easier
