my little niece had her 12th birthday on June 8th - my youngest brother lives with his family in North Sweden - so for her to have a little birthday present I send about 5 days before her birthday a little parcel - with girly stuff - a set of different slightly coloured and scented lip balms - a little pink bag with the union jack and .............. 3 small funky nail varnishes - wrapped in bubble wrap - and that was the crime I wondered why she did not get it - cause we also communicate on whatsapp - well yesterday we got the parcel back - with one letter and a second separate letter of Royal fail , because I had tried to send dangerous goods - and they take safety and well being of their customers very seriously - yeah right - so seriously that they kept the nail varnish to them selves - and they even ripped open the birhtday card - because it could have been a musical one with dangerous batteries - welcome to the 21st century with scanning devices so I read the rules - within the UK you can send maximum 4 bottles of nail varnish wrapped in bubble wrap - you are not allowed to send them abroad though - makes so much sense - because how many women board a plane with nail varnish ??? I was furious that they kept it an ripped open the birthday card and send twice the same stupid letter - don't want to pay postage for that stupid nonsense well would not be surprised if one happy person enjoys now 3 funky nail varnishes meant to be a little girls birthday present

Complain at the highest level Clivia - don't just go to your local PO, get the contact details for the Customer Service department, adopt your best terrier techniques, and don't let go until you have at least had some compensation. The money involved is secondary, this is theft, and should be pursued as such. I know someone who had a similar experience with an item with small financial value, and the PO traced the member of staff concerned and sacked them as a consequence. Unless we complain and hassle the RM it will continue to allow such acts to continue; imagine how you would feel if it was a mod which was stolen!?

chykensa - would love to do that - but I would not stand any chance - I can't remember, if I had declared any single item - we have a really nice post office here - so it's not their fault - legally seen, I have sent something, which I should not have sent, if I had read for hours all the regulations - common sense did not help, cause common sense does not see in nail varnish a dangerous item. they say in the letter, that the 'dangerous' items were removed and destroyed - and I have no proof of anything different - it would be waste of time and energy with no result - the law is on the side of Royal fail here

The Royal Fail is getting worse, I have just complained and escalated the complaint, about a sale on UKV that was posted last Saturday @ 08:39 in Leicester, 1st class Recorded delivery which meant it should have arrived next working day - Monday, Tuesday it still had not arrived, Wednesday it was showing as attempted delivery @ 05:48 card left - rubbish, turns out it went out for delivery on Tuesday (I picked it up from the local PDO on Thursday, they couldn't find it on Wednesday), but the relief postie obviously didn't want to do his job properly as he never even attempted a delivery, I was in all day. My normal postie is very good, and Wednesday was his 1st day at work this week, I've told him about the complaint and that I will back him up that it was not him if they try and blame him. Believe it or not I received on Wednesday afternoon a parcel sent from Atmizoo in Greece that had been shipped that morning (by DHL of course)

How upsetting and infuriating for you Clivia after the thought you put into buying your niece her birthday pressie. Royal Mail don't even know their own rules and regulations it seems.

Not in support of royal mail, too many horror stories of my own, but yesterday posted letter 3pm 2nd class stamp from london to my accountant in lincolnshire, this morning he was on phone 9am to say recieved and dealt with, so no point in paying the extra for first class in my mind.
MP
PS month ago sent book to someone, got the interogation at counter as to contents, so tried "blow up doll my mates desperate to recieve", got a blank look back from geezer behind counter lol
