I have a rebuildable Nautilus head which I set out to re-coil today. On Super-Shiny's chart .25 Kanthal on a 1.5 drill bit 11 wraps = 1.8 ohms
My target was 1.6 ohms and I did 9 wraps - result was 2.2 ohms so I guess I should have used more wraps
Can someone please tell me how many wraps I should have done

Have a play with this calculator goneforagasper and here's an alternativeEdit: Just looked at your figures and something is awry as 9 wraps should have been around 1.4ohms. Are you sure it was 0.25mm and 1.5mm dia, did you pull it tight and how long were the legs.

goneforagasper strange, the only thing I can think of is that the screws were not tightened down enough. Btw, Less wraps would decrease the resistance.

I have had similar results when coiling factory heads. Yesterday I went to make a coil for my aerotank. Decided on a 1.6 Ohm so used the coil calc and came up with 8.5 wraps of .30mm on 2mm bit with 8mm legs= 1.63 Made the coil, got it seated, put it on my res checker, and it showed 2.5ish.
Thought that cant be right, counted my wraps. Oops little mistake, I actually had 10 on the top and 9 on the bottom, so was 9.5 wraps not 8.5.
Made the adjustment to the calc and it says it should be 1.78. Something not right here.
So started tweaking the coil with tweezers and was getting some extremely fluctuating results form 1.75 up to 4.00.
Finally decided to lift the coil ever so slightly using a thin screwdriver and 'hey presto' 1.74 Ohms, wicked it, still 1.74 put the rest together and in the vtr.
First check said 2.0 Ohm.Took a vape and checked again 1.8. Have used a number of times and still says 1.8 as vtr only measures in .1 increments im guessing its saying between 1.7 and 1.8 so that's is as it should be.
So the upshot is try to tweak it with tweezers and maybe lift the coil slighty. If you do try to lift it take the pin out that is holding the legs tight before doing it, and be gentle or the coil will pop straight out.

It takes a while to get consistent. Over time your coils will come out to be much closer to where you expect them to be. Try not to get frustrated if your coils don't turn out how you expect. We are talking about tiny, tiny pieces of wire here, it doesn't take much to send the resistance shooting off what the chart says it should be. But, over time your coils, and your consistency at building them, will improve. It's all good!! Cheers

Informative post hijack I don't know what a Nautilus is and assumed it was a 'rebuildable' in he common sense of the word No mate its one of those fiddly factory jobs . The only reason Im still doing them is I like to take the vtr when im going walkies, and now cant stand the taste of silica when I vape.

Funny but seemed to coincide with my decision to use +2 glasses for close work Now prefer something with a bit more 'real estate' as the yanks say. Microstick or now the Gizmo, although that's a little bigger is a good walkies vape.

Just done another for the Nautilus, 7 wraps gave me 1.8 ohms so getting there. Think I will have to get some stronger glasses its very difficult with the coils being so small.
