Nr/r/nr wire, it is fantastic. If like me you love the idea of recoiling, but no matter what you do they just don't work out how you expect, give res/no res wire a try. Followed every guide which all looked so simple, but something just wasn't right almost every time. Available from Fastech for around £1.70 for 100, different resistances available, perfect coils every time. I am so glad a friend made me buy some, just recoiled 10 different styles, all between 1.4-1.7 ohms with cotton bought from the Pond shop. Used a wooden BBQ kebab stick to wind it.

What would be the main difference to using this wire over kanthal It takes some of the guess work out of coiling as they are a pre-set resistance, also the no res on each end means the rubber gromit won't burn, which can happen sometimes with kanthal. I am no expert, far from it. Someone else maybe able to explain the difference between the two much better than me. I just need to get the correct amount of cotton each time now, but at least the coils work every time.

Yep the res bit in the pre mades doesn't change the resistance no matter how many wraps you do...1.5 ohm nr/r/nr done with 4/5/6 wraps will always read 1.5 and as above said the no res legs will stop burning the rubber grommets like Kanthal can. I use the FT ones in my Magoos though they have a short NR leg it's just a fiddly bugger to wrap around the base contacts
