I've just taken delivery of a Taifun GT from FT today, and before I make a pig's ear of coiling it I wondered if anyone had a picture tutorial using a microcoil and cotton wool? I know that there are hundreds of videos on the subject, but my laptop currently has no sound (I know, don't ask!!), so I need some pictures to look at rather than stare at a muted video!! I also don't quite understand how the cap over the coil (which I presume the wick fits into the slots) joins the chimney section pointing down from the cap? I'm sure all will be revealed in due course

Take the taifun apart, remove the chimney cap (unscrew) and push down the chimney side - it just pushes down. Make and mount your coil - I know you can do this bit, but for anyone else, see Super-Shiny's guide for help with this. I'm using 6 wraps of .28 kanthal around a 2mm drill bit for 1.2 ohms. Line up the grooves in the chimney with either end of your coil: Now you need to wick it. Same as a kayfun, but use a slightly more cotton in my experience, with plenty sticking out each end. It should be able to move through the coil with resistance. Once you have it in position, unwrap any twists you've put in the cotton so it's nice and fluffy. Lift up the chimney until you feel resistance. Too far and it will pop out, not far enough and the chimney post won't make contact. See below for a picture, use the taifun logo as your guide. Prime your wick with juice, and screw the chimney top back on. Don't screw it on uber tight or you will bow the o-ring inside, finger tight but not locked down hard is fine. Trim your wicks so that there is about 4mm sticking out of the cap. Fluff up the ends gently with a screwdriver, careful not to move the wick, and saturate them with juice. Even if they look like they've soaked up the juice from priming the wick inside the chimney, make sure they are well saturated. Fill up the tank. Now, it can be a little temperamental and may take a couple of goes to make sure you've got the wick just right, so to start with, just put a little in - a third of the way up the centre post. You can easily top this up once you know it's working leak and gurgle free. Screw the base into the tank (so the atty is upside down), turn it the right way up and mount it on your weapon of choice. Pray. Vape. Enjoy the amazing flavour. Give it 20 minutes of use, if it's not gurgling or leaking you can fill the tank up to the level of the centre post. Try and keep it upright as much as possible. Thanks for asking for this guide - I haven't used my GT for weeks and I'd forgotten how good a vape it gives. I'm currently enjoying my Astro/taifun set up with monkey jizz, and it's very very tasty!

Of course, after 10 minutes my build started to gurgle - it's tricky to get perfect at first, but if it is gurgling the problem is likely to be in one of three places:
It's leaking through the wicking holes - you don't have enough wick, or the ends aren't fluffy enough
theres too much wick in the coil chamber and the juice is dripping in to the airflow hole below the coil (unlikely, but possible - worth checking)
It's leaking because the chimney post isn't making a seal with the chimney cap - gently lift the chimney housing up a little further (this was my issue!).
Once fixed, before reassembling blow sharply through the air hole in the side of the mod to clear any juice back into the coil chamber, and then put it back together.
Hope this helps!

nice one ionian, got 3 taifun clones at the mo and they're all terrific. I too get the occasional gurgle but with a taifun it's no big deal. Upend it, leave that tank o'juice sitting there while you fiddle with your wick, then whip 'er back on and Bob's your Uncle. My fave RBA.

ionian - what a star! Are you vying for Super-Shiny's Super-Shiny cape and mantle!? Seriously, that's really helpful - I haven't even got around to giving the thing a good clean and de-grease yet, but will have a go when time allows, and will refer to your guide. I'm a little filled with trepidation as I have heard all sorts of scare stories about leaks and gurgles, but I think I can see from your text where this might happen. I'll try to take some photos as I build for the first time and post here for future generations of Taifun users. Once again, I'm really grateful for the time and trouble you've taken - top geezer

No worries chykensa - happy to help I wouldn't pretend to be worthy to shine Super-Shiny's boots - my guides tend to be a lot more thrown together than his!
