Hiya I was wondering if you could help me with a few questions please.
I have already given up smoking, its been almost 2 weeks and 2 days now. ive been on the patches and gum. I never wanted to give up but my daughter pestered me for a long time to stop, she has autism and with all the talk about dying of smoking etc she was convinced it meant imminent death, and i just felt bad every time she saw me smoke, i kept thinking how horrible it must be to a child to think their mum could die now because shes smoking. so i stopped and i still hate every second of it.
Sounds odd but the first week i was too depressed about not smoking to even want a cigerette so that week was easy, the second week i had perked up but still not bothered about having a cigerette, both weeks i was chewing alot of gum, mainly regular gum, but sometimes nicotine gum. The last couple of days im back to normal mood wise, but longing for a cigerette now, the gum just isnt really cutting it anymore.
As much as people tell me it will get easier, i know that i quit for 9 years when i found out i was pregnant (cold turkey), but even after 9 years i was still slavering at the mouth when i saw people smoking and thus restarted.
Now im happy with the patches (i think) but because i miss smoking so much, i want to try the e cigs. now with the questions.
I was thinking of carrying on with the patches and the weaning off process so getting the 0% nicotine ones, would that work? right now i feel its the smoking i miss rather than the nicotine? im not sure, but the one thing i hated about smoking is the control it had over me, so i dont really want a fake cigerette having control over me either, i want it for pleasure rather than needing it, or am i just delusional and the fake cig will only give me pleasure for the nicotine hit?
Also i only smoked roll ups and hate regular cigs and it didnt cost me alot (we have a fag lady on the steet) so at most it cost me about 6 quid a week to smoke. will the roll up flavour juice cost me more than that after the initial outlay? i have no idea what the ml is equivelent to.
Also you guys talk about the riva one, is that the one from freedomvape? as on the menu page, under the electronic cigerette title it says smokeless E-cigs, does that mean you dont blow stuff out?
Also i see alot of PG and VG, whats the difference?
Thanks peeps

Hya Tam, I just wanted to welcome you, I wont answer your questions because there are much more experienced people here than me :-) Sounds like you have done really well so far but I understand what you mean about an ecig. Good luck, someone will be here very soon to help :-)

Hi tammera wishing you a warm welcome to the forum and congrats on making the patches work... i directly swapped smoking for vaping and even without trying i found the amount of ciggies i wanted just dropped of dramatically over a few days. now i just vape as its much more enjoyable. one of the great things about e-cigs is you are in control of how much nicotine you want... the juice you can buy ranges from 0 nic up to 36 and everywhere inbetween when they say smokless they mean that you arnt burning anything... but you will still be inhaling and exhaling vapour, a mix of water mist, PG/VG, Nicotine and flavouring hint: the longer you keep the vapour in your lungs the less mist you exhale costs ...well i vape about 1ml a day (20 ciggy/day habbit) which for a good quality juice works out to be 40p/day Riva is a great e-cig that has a long lasting battery and versitility PG and VG are base liquids for the e-liquid PG carries the flavour better and give a greater throat hit but can be a slightly hash and drying vape. plus some people have reactions to it VG produces thicker vapour but is a thicker liquid and wont work as well in some devices I use a mix of PG.VG 70/30 to smooth out the vape and give better vapour i hope this helps but fire away questions on anything you dont understand

Hi Tammera, hope you dont mind me asking but will your daughter understand the difference between a roll up and an Ecig? Reason i ask is smoke is smoke to anyone on the spectrum, unless they are high functioning as you will know. Sorry i havent any advice for you on the Ecig front. Netty. xx

Hello Tammera. I have recently stopped smoking myself. Been just over a week. I am very new to the e-cig / vapour scene but have received a tonne of advice and encouragement from the members of this forum.
Hardest thing for me in the past when trying to stop using patches, gum etc. was that it did not fill the "habit" part of my smoking addiction. The cup of coffee in the morning with a smoke, the 5 mins outside by my self during a stressful day at work etc.
I stumbled on e-cigs by complete accident the other week. Thought I would give it ago just to see, no intention of stopping. However I found them so effective I stopped.
For me they really have made the difference. I can "vape" during my drive to work. I can go outside for a vape etc.
My youngest boy, although he has no underlying health issues, is a really conciencious character and he was always really upset when he would see me smoking. So much so that at times he would be in tears.
I have had to explain to him the differences between vaping and smoking, not sure in your situation how you need to go about this.
Simply put, regardless of how you go about explaining to your daughter what you are doing there will be benefits to getting off the nasties and vaping. I have personally found that I can go between vapes longer than I would go without a smoke. So far I do not feel like I'm a slave to the vape as I was to cigs.
Now, I'm not a doctor or anything like that, but all the anecdotal evidence I have read makes me belive that this is a viable way to come off the cigs.
Hope this helps a little and best of luck!

Hello & welcome Tammera It really is a difficult one advising someone who has already given up smoking. I'm also wondering the same thing as Netty re your daughter & so much will depend where she is on the autistic spectrum as to how she would be able to differentiate between you smoking & vaping.

Hi Tammera and welcome I'm a noob too It should be noted that e-cigs probably won't wean you off the nicotine, it's just an alternative (and less harmful) way of inhaling it. That said, lots of people do cut their nic volume and continue vaping without it. I stopped a couple of months ago using patches and inhalers but I still longed for that throat hit. Before I knew it I was back on the nicotine..... in vapour form and haven't looked back. I've kind of resigned myself to the fact I'll always be a nic addict...

Hi Tammera I loved smoking, had no intention to quit or cut down or anythign like that, held off as long as I could ignoreing the whingeing from hubby to stop. Eventually I agreed to just try an e-cig. The first day I was down to half my normal 20+ and it dropped off over the next few days, to nothign a week later. I knew in my head the patches and gum would be a waste of money, cos I didn't want them to work. Once I got my head around the new taste and feel of the e-cig, it did exactly what I needed it to do for me, which was, make me feel liek I still had a ciggy. You do this the way you think will work for you and take as much or as little adivce from our posts as you want to. In my opinion, if your going to be going through the motions with the e-cig anyway, you might as well get the nicotine juice and wean yourself down that way with a lower juice stregth every bottle. Unless you get the patches for free lol. If you take a look at the list of suppliers ... allaboute-cigarettes.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=suppliers&thread=2&page=1#2 you will see there is a wealth of vareity out there, if you see something you like then adivice can be given here very easily (and quite a few of our members have a very good nack for findign excellant deals on whichever e-cig you liek the sound of) There is also a selection of discount codes available for a lot of the suppliers allaboute-cigarettes.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=suppliers&thread=301&page=1#86854So dont be scared to follow our links and see if you liek the look of stuff, and to take a look around yourself and see if we missed something

Im guessing that Tammera's little girl is at least 9 ...my neice and nephews range from 8 up and once i explained that the vapour was more like steam from a kettle than burning smoke they understood... they are taught about the dangers of cigarettes at school, telly and from the pictures on the ciggy packet which is fantastic in my view but if you take the time they will understand ..they're pretty bright for tiny people.... oh one problem i have now is whenever they see me vaping they wanna play the game 'guess the juice flavour' ggggrrrrrr

Hi Tammera, and congratulations on making patches work for you. I tried them but had to smoke at the same time and made myself sick and dizzy ??? You'll know better than we can whether your daughter will understand the difference between cigs and e-cigs. Remember, she will certainly smell the difference because there's hardly any smell with e-cig vapour - you could tell her it's "steam", not smoke, and it's just helping you to stay off smoking cigarettes. Also, a Riva certainly won't be mistaken for a ciggy. In my opinion you should ditch the patches entirely while you experiment with 16-20mg strength juice in your Riva. Then gradually reduce the nic level - if you want to scylla x

Tammera, that is good to hear your daughter is high functioning & will understand the difference. Maybe go for a black Riva rather than a brightly coloured one so she is less attracted to having one herself? Yes, it would be a good idea to order a couple of different strengths of juice

Hi Tammera I read your post yesterday and my initial thoughts were- please don't give up one habit only to replace it with another if at all you can cope. Most, if not all of us are just addicted to nicotine and even though ecigs are a million times better than conventional smoking, it still is nicotine addiction after all. Just wanted to say really that i personally am astonished that you were actually able and capable of giving up smoking for so very long- nine years you say I know that I would never have been able to do that. Personally, if I tried and could just about cope with ANY of the normal nic replacement products, I would just continue with them!
