guys, loads for me to get googling... to be honest, the farm where we are staying is nestled in the Quantocks, so not sure how often we'll be able to tear ourselves away from it, it looks stunningly beautiful! But I really like the idea of the steam train and think Mr Lairey will love it... that and finding and sampling some lots of lovely scrumpy

cheddar gorge gets my vote along with glastonbury and bath and it looks likes it's the coolest place to be this weekend, wish I was in the west country for the weekend, sooner we win the lottery the better it's where we want to move to

No worries prr. Bath could well be on the cards for the day we go or the day we leave as it's kinda on the way. Plus we have friends who live in Bath, so might be a great excuse to catch up with them

lairey, I grew up in South Somerset and probably a lot has changed since I was last there. I certainly second wibble 's suggestion re Cheddar Gorge & Wookey Hole. This may give you some ideas... www.visitsomerset.co.uk/things-to-doAlso if you're into coastal sites, my favourite was always Lyme Regis in Dorset, not that far from Taunton (where I passed my driving test BTW). Probably DiscoDes or Roscopecotrain would advise you on the latest places to go, and Des can certainly tell you where to get your 'scrumpy'. prr Barth is not in Somerset Wells is a nice place to visit and just down the road Glastonbury. If you catch the train to Minehead it's okay but a bit further down the coast is Lynton and Lynmouth which is much prettier. I like the Somerset levels, lots of little villages I can recommend a trip to Burrowhill Cider www.ciderbrandy.co.uk/#1 where they produce Somerset Brandy and Cider of course! If you're lucky you'll run into the owner Julian Temperley (Father of the famous Fashion Designer) and get a look at the old French Calvados Still that they use to make the Brandy. There's a great smokehouse called Brown and Forest at Hambridge www.smokedeel.co.uk/index.html they have a lovely "Tea Room" where you can sample their products and drink tea from proper china cups with gabardine table cloths. Just been checking out the Cider Brandy site DiscoDes... 4 litres of scrumpy for £7.20... I'm going to spend the whole weekend pi$$ed, won't be venturing anywhere!

Cheddar Gorge Wooky Hole Bath Glastonbury
and if you fancy a bit of a drive I would venture into Devon (We don't Bite Much) and go up to Dartmoor which is stunning or if you like Beaches go to North Devon.

if you have time - go to Glastonbury (not the festival site - which is anyhow in Pilton ) but Glastonbury itself - it takes about 20 to 30 minutes to go up the tor and the view is stunning - and after that - the Chalice well - one of the most beautiful gardens - and the town is fun - best coffee is in the Mocca Berry

Longleat ,the Safari bit is ok ,found the House and attractions better with the walking Zoo,chipmunks and meercats you walk into there enclosure, and there round your feet the buttlerfly house is brill and if you are brave go into the bat cave and get swooped with bats, the house is good to walk round to,takes a day just to enjoy the house and mini zoo bit, plus we were lucky they had a bird of prey display thats was great ducking when the eagle flew about 3 ft above your head....will say though take a picnic or snacks in with you and drinks, there horrendous in there large basic pot noodle £7 www.longleat.co.uk/we did a camping holiday and stayed here not a bad place love the paddle in the watermill pond, plus few places for river swimming, and only 10 min drive to Longleat and 20 mins to Bath stowfordmanorfarm.co.uk/index.php/camping/
