F**k right off out of it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!............... How the supermarkets have the front to call the self service tills "Express" is totally beyond me.... This stooooopid automated voice message came up 5 times while I was trying to scan my stuff & 5 times, I had to go in search of the elusive woman, who, everytime she rectified the matter, somehow disappeared into thin air.........10 minutes to shop & 25 minutes to scan the stooooooopid stuff..........online shopping for me in future.........totally stressed out..............on the upside, I must have managed to pick "no oldies & leg bashers" day................ "Life...........is just a bowl of tricks!!!!!!" I love these tills - not.
I do shop online, but call in supermarkets if I am passing to pick up fresh stuff.
Do you have your own bag - I shout NO.
Please scan the item, repeat repeat whilst you are tyring to scan it, I shout -I'M BLOODY TRYING.
Please remove last item - whilst you are still trying to scan , I shout - I HAVEN'T PUT ANYTHING IN THE BAG YET.
When the ordeal is over , I take my receipt look at the machine and shout - THANKYOU
The staff think I'm nuts

I won't even go into the varied reasons why Customers return Fruit & Vegetables in Supermarkets . . . although I've known of a Pineapple being returned because it had a wonky bottom and didn't stand up straight in a fruit bowl. Makes me chuckle.

I'm pretty much used to these self serve tills now and use them all the time, ether they have got better or I'm getting better at using them. Better than dealing with moody snarling staff and quicker if have only enough to fill one bag.
Only exception is tescos near my work, I simply won't use it as prices are often wrong, had this happen three times, and they break half way through using them...not a simple swipe of the card the till assistant's use but die!

chrisjw - I'm firmly with you here, I absolutely refuse to use those bleddy things, much rather go to the basket checkout where I can hopefully have some sort of conversation with a human being who is quick, efficient and doesn't tell me off if I put things down in the wrong place. clairea is right - if enough of us use them, then supermarkets will become ghost towns, with robots shelf-stacking and only one supervisor manning the self-service checkouts. I still try to use local independent shops wherever I can

In one of supermarkets near us you usually don't have anyone behind the checkouts... if you want cigs, like I used to, you have to ask the security guard to go and get someone!

Waitrose is the best - scan as you go round and put in your bag and then just pay with the registered card. They do a random system generated check. Beats queuing and hanging around shops.

Makes me chuckle. I've never returned anything, it seems cheeky. I was in asda not too long ago, and a lady had the cardboard sleeve of some family meal, she said she had cooked it and it was horrid so wanted a refund, I couldn't quite believe it, she was told to go and choose another one for free.

Tesco do a scan as you shop... Scan your club card, scan your shopping and pack it straight in your bags as you go round. Get to the special checkouts, that NEVER have any queues, scan the bar code on top of till and pay with whichever payment method you want... saves a good 20 minutes in the hell hole, of unpacking onto the belt and packing in your bags at the other end.

I agree, use it regular, not swayed by incident last year when it charged me £1.20 for a plus £30 shop, s&&&ing bricks until the credit card bill came in lol, now i use it even for a pint of milk lol. How do they know if you have scanned everything in your bag? I'm thinking of a very large Tesco I know and there are a lot of well , no that sounds bad, put it another way, how do they know that you have not popped a joint of beef in the bag without scanning it?

Tesco's/Sainsbury's do it by weight Sammy . . . so if they don't correspond, it generates a warning.

I will avoid this kind of shopping then, knowing my luck my cucumber and lettuce will be heavier than they expect, and I will be carted off I will stick to shouting at the machines, it gives all the other shoppers a laugh at least.
