A family friend and fellow tinkerer passed away recently, he was in his 80's but still doing projects (not vape related). My Uncle was left the house and contents in the Will and invited me around today saying I could have the workshop contents. There's literally tons of stuff, it's a tinkerer's Aladdins cave. Not sure i'd have anywhere for most of it but i'll find a place for some of it i'm sure. Here's a few pics of some of the stuff. 1. Lister Engine 2. Rapidor Saw (not sure if 3 phase) 3. Seing Pillar Drill/press 4. Selecta Bench Grinder/Polisher there's also another bench grinder with a custom made floor stand (can't make out the brand), a oxford bantam 180 welder, couple of compressors, some big jacks and loads of tools etc. I'll be lost in there for the foreseeable future.. lol

Love the Rapidor Saw. The plug for a 3 phrase is normally different, you could check the info plate on the machine, plus check if the building has 3 phase.

Yes that's the plate for it, I wasn't sure because the plate wasn't stamped in the phase section and it looked like someone had just put a 3 prong plug on the cabling.

Mev, I'm no expert but I think with it saying 240 volts on the nameplate it would be single phase. I reckon 3 phase is 415 v Some cracking stuff to play with there

I suspect the phase would be stamped with 3 if it was 3 phase. Also it's 240v, if it was 3phase it would most likely be stamped 415 of 440volts. It only around a 370 watt motor. Also 3.8 amps FLC sounds right for a single phase 1/2 horsepower 240v induction motor. Although some weird motors can be configured everything above points to single phase. The other pointer is the standard domestic plug, if it was 3 phase such a plug would be the last one suitable, almost madness. I'm pretty sure it's single phase but if you want 100% guarantee whip the motor termination cover off and post a pic of the connections

that is a standard 240v motor not 3 phase so you are all right with it

You just can't beat the build quality of old kit. The pillar drill is well worth keeping, even if the motor and bearings need replacing. They out perform the modern stuff by miles for accuracy. I rescued an old Table Saw and a Thicknesser both cast iron and converted them to single from 3 Phase. Lost a bit in power, but kept the motors as I will get a a decent rotary phase converter one day.

Good to see all the "made in England" instead of made in bloody china ! Quality machinery you have there !

I wouldn't know where to begin using those Mev, but they look so conducive to making something! Great old machinery, I knew a drum and percussion repairer in Walkern, Herts. some years back, and his workshop had a Selecta buffer which he used for polishing glockenspiel notes before tuning them. I'm sure he had a very similar pillar drill mounted on his bench too, for, well, drilling holes in things (see, I told you I was hopeless!). I'm sure you will spend many happy hours fiddling and being transported in that workshop

when doing a bit of research yesterday there's nothing but praise from people owning/using one of those saws.
