Peeps, we have a problem! I bought sons GF a starter kit from Cloud Atlas Vaping, consisting of ego-t, ego twist and two mini protanks. realised that the tanks weren't Kanger when they arrived but they seemed ok. Got 4 spare heads for them to get her going. Having used the tanks for 5 days they've developed a horrid taste after vaping a few times on both tanks. It's a horrid burnt, foul taste. I've made micro coils and used cotton wool wicks, and the tanks have been cleaned well, but putting them back together horrid taste came back. The only thing I can think is that the metal the actual head are made from are tainting the taste as they get hot as the coil heats up? I've put in a genuine Kanger head, which is a tight fit on the tank but it works and seems to stop the foul taste. So, is this possible, that the metal the heads are made from is not good and when it gets hot it causes a bad taste. And, more importantly, could this be dangerous, even poisonous? I'm going to contact the vendor, I have no issues with him as I haven't yet told him we have a problem. Just want the best advice out here. Thank you peeps.

Could be the rubber grommit at the base of the coils burning under the heat of the coil

Could your cotton wick be too loose in the coil hence your tasting heated wire due to lack of juice/ wick at the coil ?

More likely that the cotton is too tight, rather than too loose, at least in my experience. Sounds like a wicking issue of some kind at least.

Could be either I guess but I find if it's too tight then you get burnt cotton taste as it restricts juice flow by strangling the wick but if it's too loose the CW is well juiced but the coil isn't fully wetted and metal taste results. It a case of trial and error until you get the wick density right.

Could be the standard coils had some kind of wicking issue too, certainly sounds like it.

But we are getting the foul taste with silica wick, bought coils, recoiled and re wicked heads (the ones that came with the tanks and the spares I bought) and the genuine Kanger head with cw doesn't seem to be causing the problem?

I have a couple of them tanks sleedale but I haven't used them yet, and from what I can tell they definately 'aint genuine heads. The rank taste could be factory muck on the coils, I always wash and soak anything I buy overnight in a denture tablet bath so give them a long overnight soak in a shot glass of vodka (if you have some), rinse them off and leave them to dry then try them again leaving the coil to bed in. Failing that, strip them down removing the coil and wick, soak the dismantled coil(s) overnight in vodka or a denture tablet then rebuild them to your liking.

Just as a side note, the mini protanks aren't Kanger and the genuine Kanger heads are a tight fit in the tank....the chimney is longer and slightly wider on the genuine ones? It's the original smaller heads causing the foul taste.
