it will filter its way through all appliances eventually there is already talk of computer power supplies being restricted but I don't know how that one is going to work as the average PC power supply is only 450W - 500W anyway so it doesn't use a lot of power unlike mine 1800W on mine

This is a double edged sword.
We need the EU for business BUT we should refuse the policies that they are inflicting on us.
Also , these idiots aren't even elected.I think a lot of countries send the most annoying idiots to the EU just to get rid of them, then they come up with BS like this.
I listened to Jeremy Vine last week on Radio 2 ( who to me most of the time is just annoying at best ) and the Hoover situation is just phase one, in a years time their reducing it again to 1200 watt then a year or so after it goes down to 900 watts.A lady on the show has a cleaning company said this ban is for everyone and she won't be able to get anything above the EU limit and she said "The companies aren't going to pay me more because it takes longer to clean them, effectively cutting her profits by a big margin , so is the EU going to going to pay for that ? " , she has a point , when the immensely dumb people in the EU make up these rules , they don't even consider the people that rely on such things for a living and just do a blanket ban. Mr Cameron needs to grow a pair and put a stop to this, starting now.
One other question here , how many other EU countries has this been applied to , and what countries have got out of it, how ?
Andy

problem is these people are paid loads of money to come up with these ideas so they go for the highest impact to make their wages justified in my humble opinion no offence intended to anyone in particular

Andy think we should look at going back to the dustpan and brush idea that will cut electric and suspect be more efficent than a hoover with so little power it is more annoying than efficent? this ban will also put a lot of people out of work. what happens to schools / cafe's etc if they do away with the kettle they can't have open fires to boil up water 'HEALTH RISK' Totally Agree with Andy on all this - they got to dam much power and don't live in the Real World of working people and families etc EU THIS IS FOR YOU

If you have to use the appliance for longer to get the job done because it's less powerful, then you have to use more energy thus cancelling out the benefit.

the longer a motor runs the hotter it gets the hotter the motor the more fuel it uses to get it to run so it doesn't work the way the EU think I test motors every day for fuel efficiency and they are talking out of there ar*e small motors are a fire risk FACT that is the reason vacumn cleaner motors are so big electric motors can be made more fuel efficient but then produce to much heat to make them safe for domestic appliances I personally think if they go ahead with this the fire brigade are going to be busier

This affects Denmark too. It's great for the guys at the top, sitting around feeling like they are "good" people caring about the environment and such, but how many of them actually use a hoover?
The EU is a monster, totally out of touch with the real lives of real people and it's only going to get worse.
