From Amazon for under £30, Logitech Lapdesk N550. They've got the wrong picture up, found these which are accurate: This is it with a 10" netbook on it, but my 11.6" fits more-or-less the same: Plugs in with just one USB cable and Windows7 installs the software automatically, so it's plug 'n play Volume and mute buttons are on the right-hand side and there are 2 flip-ups at the front to prevent slippage. The sound is miles better than built-in speakers and could probably be even better if my soundcard had ajustments for speech/music/movie etc but it doesn't. You can get a bigger lapdesk with built-in cooler for 15" plus. Just thought I'd tell ya, as others who want better sound from their lappies might have problems with space for external speakers, this is not too heavy and it's got a cushion underneath.

Very very nice Scylla do you think a 17" laptop would fit in the larger version?

The guy who did the review attached to the picture I posted with the 10" netbook on it said "as you can see the netbook slightly covers the speakers so don't put anything bigger on it" but that's not so, my 11.6" is fine. And someone in the reviews said that their daughter's 14" fitted OK. I think the sound comes thru even if the speakers are partially covered. After all, some notebook speakers are actually underneath.

I had made myself a fabulous laptop rest by sticking 1cm-deep feet on the underside of an old, buckled, Ratpadz (marketed as a gaming mousepad, a very expensive plastic board > ), thus creating a space between lappy bottom and upside-down Ratpadz - but having to attach/detach my external powered speakers was annoying me. And the Logitech was an impulse buy Jungle, I hope you're going into business with that mod
