This is the lead-in to a story in today's Times article. It's behind a paywall so I can't view the whole text but it did give me a good chuckle. Awww diddums. Poor wittle scientists, such delicate souls. Link for reference: linkSo , this total and utter bully and coward decides to go to the papers now , because he decided to leave Twitter alone because HE spat his dummy out , after losing two conversations on the BBC in three days. Now he is trying to go the back handed route and say younger scientists are getting put off doing research.I very much doubt that , if I was a young scientist I would jump at the chance to be in the middle of all this.It doesn't matter which side is right or wrong, they will still get the credit for letting the world know the truth.Even if it doesn't give you guaranteed work and wealth at least you would have either warned the world about the dangers OR this is a groundbreaking product and the best thing since penicillin. There are a couple of reasons why I don't believe this , firstly :- younger people have a lot less to lose and are a lot thicker skinned than people like Professor John Ashton ( yes, that name again ) and after other social media rants, shouldn't have even been in the position he was in on saturday to make those remarks. Secondly :- Professor John Ashton hasn't mentioned this before , so where has he got all this information about young scientists in just 2 days and one of those days was on the weekend, I bet if you read the rest of the article ( unfortunately I can't ) you will see NO proof at all of this, just like every other statement he seems to have made regarding E-Cigs. The thing that annoyed me most was about US as vapers supposed to be targeting health officials , I'm every so sorry , what was that ?? Isn't it the other way round ? Isn't it the likes of you and other large supposed health organisations that decided to pick on us first with your lack of knowledge on the subject, totally ignoring scientific FACTS that already exist and then give the worldwide public scare "STORIES" of things that are either not true or irrelevant , sounds like a true work of fiction.Perhaps these people would be better being novelists. Then after doing NOTHING as far as research goes, releasing statements , which governments listen to , which in effect could KILL more people , not save lives.Sorry , but that's what I thought health officials were for , not for running competitions on how many brown envelopes they can get in their back pockets. so much for a free country There's no such thing . . . we're only allowed the ' freedom ' that those in power decide is wise to permit us. I get pig sick of these bods dictating to me, what I can and can't do with my life, all the time pretending it's in my best interests. I can make my own decisions thank you.

That's precisely it really. The squeaky wheel gets the grease, so when there is a pot of free money available and headline news, these quango's/charities will be concocting all manner of nonsense to get a piece of it. The sense of entitlement and desire to nanny is directly proportional to the amount of perceived power granted.

Slowing down traffic and having traffic lights every 100 yards is insane , especially at a time where we are all supposed to be SAVING energy not just burning it sitting in one spot waiting for the lights to change and then only 4 cars getting across.I'm very surprised this hasn't been highlighted as a huge GREEN issue with someone , as I've been saying this about the massive introduction of traffic lights for years. Andy If there's one thing guaranteed to enrage a motorist - it's traffic calming measures They have to deliberately muck up the sequencing of the traffic lights to cause congestion, how else are they going to bring in congestion charges
