On and off I've been trying to make coils for ages. I ordered a coil making gizmo and gave it a go last nite. Coils came out looking great. 1.7 on .25 kanthal. Wicked it with some cotton soaked it with juice and put it in my tank. At first it was great and I was all chuffed. Then 20 mins later getting a funny taste off it. Sort of a burnt taste though not overpowering like it usually is. But still there. Any ideas wat I'm doin wrong?

Possibly a bit too much cotton i.e. wick too thick so not absorbing the juice quick enough. I find that the cotton you put through the coil for best wicking should be able to be pulled back and forth through the coil with just a little bit of resistance
Hope that makes sense xtc263 ???

Hi xtc263 I've only just done my first couple of coils which worked out good but I'm still a newbie when it comes to coiling so won't be of much help to you. Listening to advice I've had it may be your voltage/wattage too high or too much cotton in the coil. Someone with more experience will be along soon to help. Well done on your coils anyway. It's a great feeling doing it the first time.

What kind of tank / head are you using? Could well be a rubber grommet causing the burnt taste. I make sure my coil heads have a sillicone grommet when installing a microcoil. Never get any burnt taste with these. But with the rubber ones definitely did.

If your getting this after 20 mins then it sounds like your wick is drying up. As said before too much cotton. The rule with cotton is less is more as it will expand once wet and swell up choking off the flow of juice. Try rewicking with only just enough cotton to loosely fill the coil. There should be no resistance when you pull it through.

Sounds like the cotton is drying up slightly. Try a little less cotton, it sounds like your not far off getting it right. There are 2 areas where having the cotton to tightly packed will choke the flow of juice. The slots in the side and the coil itself.

But for some reason when I use them the draw is very tight and getting very little to know vapour. Have u ever got this when u use silicone grommets? Or any idea wat I'm doin wrong? Thanks Laurie

I think you're pushing the pin into the gommet too hard causing it to bulge out.

prr beat me to it! Was just going to say the same thing, gently ease the bottom pin out very slightly, and watch the grommet, it may spring back to it's original shape. Also , resist the temptation to screw the attie down too hard on your battery/mod, this will also contribute to squashing the grommet. Can't think of any other reason why the silicone grommet should affect the draw . . .

But when I replace the grommet with a thinner silicone grommet it's fine. I just don't have a lot of spare thin silicone grommets left. That's why I ordered a load of the other silicone ones. It's very frustrating lol.

Thanks Laurie Just to be sure are you swapping the right bit? The bit a the bottom that the little metal pin slots into. Not the bit at the top that goes over the chimney? Otherwise could be compressing the grommet a little as others mentioned... (never experienced this myself). Or perhaps the coil is too large/ too close to the airhole / or too tightly packed with cotton...?

xtc263 after reading again I realise it's very unlikely you're swapping the wrong bit. Thought you were more of a newbie. Didn't mean to insult your intelligence Sounds like maybe the sillicone grommets you got are too big then i guess. Where did you get them from?
