Now I know I'm a grumpy old git but. Is it me or am I the only one that thinks the amount of organised cycle rides that seem to be popping up and closing roads is getting a bit out of hand. The last one near us was the London to Surrey back in August. The amount of aggro that this ride caused was unbelievable. The M 25 was at a standstill from Reigate to Chertsey which is about 25 miles because everyone was avoiding the closed roads. If you wanted to get from southeast London to southwest you basically couldn't unless you either joined the madness on the motorway or did a massive detour south and back up again. Took me three and a half hours to do 45 minute journey. The government go on about how congested motorways cost the economy millions but then give the go ahead to this nonsense. I've nothing against people persuing a hobby to keep fit but when it starts to inconvenience other people who have no interest in dressing up like a pillock to ride a bike, then I think the sensible line has been crossed. Then to rub it in we have yet another down this way at the weekend closing more roads. Sorry for the rant but I just think it's becoming a joke.

The lycra gang seem to think they have some god given right to hog the road. Anyone would think they were the ones paying road tax and not cars.

I've been riding motorcycles for years. I wonder what the authorities would say if I asked for a few roads to be closed all day so I can organise something.

At least they're fit young men in Lycra hogging your roads come over here, it's 80yr olds & they seriously should not be on bikes, let alone in Lycra!! Oh well the fit young ladies in lycra i stay behind for ages, and they can ride 3 abreast if they want -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- EDIT that sounds wrong

Actually, spaniel, I was going to post that you were all jealous really & that if they were all young ladies in Lycra, you wouldn't be complaining.

In Cornwall this weekend there is the Martin Jennings Memorial Run. Approx 1600 motorbikes from all over ride in one large convoy around Cornwall. As Martin came from Beacon they all park up where ever they can, desend on Beacon Square and a few words are said by the organiser and a minute silence for all motorcyclists who have been killed. The police never shut the roads. Normal traffic and sightseer's all try to drive through the village. Last year an ambulance got stuck by my house until motorbikes were moved, luckily they only had to go a few doors up from me. Even buses try to get through.
It is a fantastic sight, but I wish the road was close for the 1 1\2 hours.

Maybe they should swap the leathers for lycra and put five bananas on thier head, they would close them then and bore everyone witless telling you about it on the news

I think they should have tractor trials one week, cycle trials the next and A road caravanning in between!
