something to watch divx/avi/mkv on from USB

being a bit of a technophobe could do with your guidance, i often watch programmes/films through my tv from a usb stick, my good lady and i are jetting off to Egg wiped next week and don't want to take the laptop as too big to put in room safe, is there anything around relatively inexpensive that may fit that we could take with us to play these formats via usb port?

if not a usb flash drive will work but best to use divx films as most tv,s will play it might get away with mp4 as well

forgot to add i use an app on my phone called plex to stream films from my home pc over wifi at other peps homes
pc needs to have same program installed and left on to work (worked well when i was in Egypt)

i will have a look at that thanks, but not for Egypt though as hotel has very poor (and expensive) wifi

have to admit it was one of the few things the hotel got right,good free wifi all over the complex(we used skype to keep in contact with each other instead of using phone calls)

You can plug it into any tv via hdmi, and put a usb with films in the other end. If the tv has a usb socket I think that can even supply the power it needs

Another option would be to treat yourself to a tablet with a mini-hdmi out. Stick your films on it, and if you can plug it into the TV you can watch on there, but if not, at a push you can watch on the tablet. Plus you can log into AAEC if you can find some wifi!

EDIT: bear in mind that one of those android mini pc's will need a wireless keyboard/mouse to operate whatever is happening on screen, whereas a tablet you can control via the touchscreen
