It has just been on the news on radio 5 live that the advertising of ecigs on TV will be allowed as they are clearly "not a tobacco product"

I just heard this. First-off, I thought...hmm...could be a problem. Then, I came to the decision this is great! More exposure, more acceptance, more debate. They are even allowed to glamourise them. As long as that's not to kids - bring it on. Prepare for an avalanche of people googling "why is my E-lite/10 Motives/Nicolite so bl**** useless?"

There was a piece on BBC Breakfast this morning about 6.30 . . . they're bound to repeat it later in the program.

There was a piece on BBC Breakfast this morning about 6.30 . . . they're bound to repeat it later in the program. Saw this and I kind of agree with the doctor that was on, in that he thought ecigs were a good thing but given how they are taking off through word of mouth, did not see the need for advertising. I think it could open the doors to the big tobacco companys even more and too all manner of chancers who see the opportunity for a quick profit. I also think that given human nature being what it is, someone will push the boundaries of the adverts and the rest will follow suit. Then there will be the accusations of glamourisation and encouraging people to take up being addicted to nicotine leading to further legislation.

Vype have been advertising on tv a while now so I don't get why it's making the news these last couple of days. I do believe Vype may have fallen foul of advertising standards but the ads have been out there.
Remember this one ? Raised a few eyebrows and was perhaps a little risky for a product type that had its haters.
Then there was this one.
Maybe I'm missing something ?

bonnieboy I get why the advertising standards busy bodies have scrutinised the ads I have highlighted. My point is that it's in the media ie good morning at around 6.40am today saying that they're going to allow ecig advertising. Ecig advertising on tv has already been done. Jay

reading through the brief linked to on another thread on here, they are going to pre-vet the ads before they go out, to ensure they adhere to the rules.... not a bad thing methinks, as it'll save any adverse reactions as were for the vip ad.

Not sure if I'm overly happy about this Tbh, it will probably be the big tobacco and pharma companies who have the financial clout to flood the market with advertising, this will mean more over priced , inadequate, cigalikes. They will also lobby for rules and regulations to suit themselves not us ! I kind of enjoy vaping being kind of 'underground' so to speak, I wouldn't want people to start vaping instead of starting smoking, I'd sooner they did neither !! That's my tuppence worth, lol

But both those two ads are way too sexual in my opinion..... There is nothing at all sexy about me walking down the street, a little overweight, in a skirt, flats and polo neck (och an black 40 denier tights), my face twitching, vaping a VTR with a battered flowery leather wrap LOL

I've happened to be in zeldamum's shop a couple of times when she has received publicity posters from vaping companies. We have agreed instantly that they are just not appropriate to display, showing scantily-clad young women with a curl of vapour emanating from their mouths, and all sexy lighting and soft focus. I would hazard to surmise that there are very few of us who sit around in fishnets and a basque in low lighting, vaping our cig-a-like or using a particular company's red-coloured juice, so why portray it as such? Surely a more customer-friendly approach could be found; I personally don't find the look of a scantily-clad young woman unattractive, but I don't see why any person needs to be included just to make vaping seem more 'sexy'!?
