sammy13... Have been in work today, and we've just started a half price toy sale. The aisles were heaving, the staff couldn't get down them to replenish the stock, and one customer (with three trolleys) spent just shy of £1,000. What on earth is she going to do next year ??? £1500 per child I gather is average these days, in fact that may a bit low , sad really, take em out watch their faces light up. Please tell me you're joking!

Unfortunately not, now obviously this is dependent on certain things and if credit is involved, but yep, average earners A friend of mine spends £2000 each, another limits it to £1500 each and sweets and treats.
These are minimum wage council housing people, not rich

You fill in some details about the child and santa sends a video link to your email for the child. thats the one did it last yeR and my little boy loved it He's just turned 7 and still believes in Santa but think it will be the last Xmas he does My 9 year old grandson has just stopped believing this year and his mum is quite relieved as he will appreciate it more knowing it's from her ! Hate the fact Xmas is so commercialised and too much peer pressure ! God knows what to get them this year got everything ! Xbox, iPad , got the little ratbag a laptop for his birthday he went crazy for and he spent the morning playing football with balloons !!!

I usually, after advice from their Dad, get them the latest footie boots (around £30, which I still think is exorbitant) plus a few bits and pieces, and they have been well pleased. If they ever turned their nose up at whatever they were given, they would get nothing. Luckily both my sons have the same attitude... no-one gets a 'free ride' in this life.
Kids getting mega presents will expect more each year, and it cannot be sustained. Can only end in tears, but a lesson in life.

Totally true Raffles. The children in Cuba are some of the happiest kids you will ever meet, and they have zilch, anything they do have is respected and appreciated.
