I have decided to quit cigs (Embassy No1) ......health, cost etc. I want to try a vape stick (not a cig lookalike), but don't know where to start. I have looked in the window of high st vape shops and the choice is bewildering. They have starter kits for about £25 - 30, but I would like some advice but I go in and they sell me what ever they probably want to shift(as it is no good). I have also seen De-bang devices for about £20 in a BP garage.
Are the best devices all usb charged, can any liquid be used in any device, how long do the things last or do parts need regularly replacing. How long does a bottle of liquid generally last, so I can work out 'running' costs.
As you can see, I haven't got a clue, but would prefer some background before I purchase. Any tips on what brand or where I should start would be greatly appreciated.
Speaking as a recent convert (and in the same position as you a few months ago), all I can do is let you know what I bought which worked out very well. There are plenty of experienced, helpful vapers on here who will no doubt give you further advice.
Very easy to use, well made and produce a decent flavour and vapour
Charging is by USB but you can get hold of USB socket wall plugs if necessary
AFAIK all juices work fine. Some are thicker than others. Have a look arounf the forum for advice on PG vs VG mix but if you aim for 50/50 you can't go wrong. Flavour wise the world is your oyster - buy several 10ml testers to try them out and you'll soon find something you like. Vendors I have used with a good range (and good service): Joose Juice/Red Juice/Myepack
Strength? Advice seems to be it depends on the quantity of fags you smoked. 20 a day, you should start with 16/18mg - again perhaps buy some 11/12mg and see which works for you.
In terms of how long things will last depends on how much you vape. An Evod tank of 1.5ml might last a day if you tend to vape in a similar pattern to fags (ie popping out every so often at work etc.). Battery life will be similar. You can of course get through it much quicker if you're not careful
Cost wise, it just makes sense. Yes, there is the initial outlay and getting some bottles of juice but considering a packet of fags is close to a tenner you WILL save money comparing it to your old habit.
In time you can (and most likely will) upgrade batteries and tanks.
I will leave it now for others to give you further advice. Ask lots of questions, everyone was in the same boat as you at one point and very happy to help. Spend lots of time researching on here and the various YouTube videos.
You are on the right track already, cigalikes are not a good choice
For starter kits then Kanger is a good brand to look for. Both the evod and emow kits are a good place to start.
The aspire premium kit is an even better bet imo, although more expensive, it is worth it.
Liquid use per day is very personal, the extremes would be 1ml or 10ml a day. Go for the higher nicotine range as then you will naturally vape less, and are much more likely to find it easy to walk away from the stinkies.
Usb charging is a convenience that I personally like. There is nothing wrong with ego connection charged batteries other than a slight inconvenience. If you want a usb charged battery then the Mvp kit (get one with the iClear16s) has always been popular, despite being bigger. It may be worth making up your own starter kit if you like usb charging, there are a few batteries out there worth having, the cheapest being the iStick. For the atomiser to go on top, The aspire BVC coil system is the best on the market for no faff, ease of use.
If you like faffing then there are even more options around, but they are probably best left for a few weeks until you understand the basics.
It is confusing in the beginning, but it doesn't take long to get familiar with it all. DON'T over buy anything in the beginning even if you love it. DO ask here about any problems. DO expect it to be slightly expensive in the beginning as you are very likely to make some dud purchases no matter how much you research, this will decrease rapidly once you settle in, and unless you go loco will never cost more than smoking. Once you find the system and liquid that works for you the costs are very low, especially if you start mixing your own liquid (this is, of course assuming that you don't catch the dreaded shinitis )
In a few weeks time you will be wondering why you were ever confused
Tesla Invader 3, Voopoo Drag, Aegis Legend, Recurve Squonk; Ammits, Dead Rabbit RTAs, Tornado, Bravo RTA, etc.! All juice home-mixed, apart from the odd treat
Thanks for all your great responses and for taking the time to help. I have been to my first vape shop and tried my first ever vape. Cannot believe I smoked for so long. Very enjoyable. The shop was a bit overwhelming with all the diff stuff in there. Anyway they had there own brand starters in there on offer at 20. And 5 liquids for 10. The very helpful girls also recommended an mpv device which looked a bit like a mobile phone for 45. She said alot of people who bought starters wished they'd bought an mpv. Anyway I've taken a leaflet of all the great/mad flavours; will do a little homework and take the leap to a healthier and more prosperous future!
Its an MVP not MPV, that's a Renault Scenic and yes the girls are right, most people (myself included) moved on from a 'starter kit' to an MVP very quickly, battery life is exceptional, variable voltage/wattage allow you to custom your vape to your own taste AND they can act as a power bank to charge your mobile phone Their price isn't bad for a B&M (bricks & mortar.. shop) but you can do a LOT better online add an Aerotank and/or a couple of juices and you'll get free postage, and normally next day delivery.
But mostly a BIG welcome to our friendly little 'family'
Yes the MVP is a good ecigarette battery - as long as you are happy with its size then you have plenty of power to hand, battery should last days before needing a recharge!
It being a variable wattage/voltage just means you can ramp up the power to suit your needs I find that in the morning I use low settings and towards evenings I need to dial it up a bit to get satisfaction.
Another very similar battery is the eleaf istick, its smaller again but similar battery power. Having a battery that lasts ages is important, no point finding out its flat when you need it!
Also it can charge from a samsung phone cable/plug and a kindle - most people have them to hand. Another bonus is it can be used to charge your phone or kindle!
and lastly, hello and welcome to AAEC and please feel free to ask anything and everything as we are happy to offer advice and help when we can

An MPV is a good device with a decent battery life, you may have seen the Eleaf Istick thread here which a lot of us have bought and for only £18 you cant go wrong. All you would need the in an Atomizer / Heads and some Juice.
Welcome to the forum from me too! good advice already given. Personally I would go to the mpv, a good robust device and like most people on here you will enjoy your starter kit, but after awhile will think it's lacking a bit. blacklab
Your probably right about the quality of the MVP. It did look impressive, but a bit cumbersome! I'm not a heavy smoker....just one in the morning and a then a few in the evening with a beer/wine. I don't smoke in work and never even think about it, but as soon as I get home....I feel like one. With that in mind, I don't think battery life will be the major factor. I think it will be flavour and a bit of a throat hit that I will be seeking. Can't wait to get started and choose some flavours.
MVP has one other big advantage over a 'normal' starter kit.... it stands up nicely
That not sound much of a deal breaker but you really want your kit to stand up, far less chance of any leakage and my skinny starter kit was forever getting knocked over.
But if you're only a light smoker the starter kit will probably do you fine... until shinyitis kicks in

It is easily possible to vape for £1-£3 a day on liquid and £3-£10 a week on a simple battery and atomizer set up.
Somewhat unsurprisingly, I would recommend some half decent Kanger or Innokin stuff over cheap De-bang (rubbish) and Blu (expensive and fairly un-special as well).
I was in Tesco today. They (well, Vapestick) are selling non-refillable (CE4) tanks for £9.99 for two. One of these holds 1.5ml and would last me almost a day. Using and throwing them away would cost me in excess of £2,000 a year.
I reckon even buying loads of liquid, I certainly don't spend more than £500 on liquid.
This is the sort of product the public are being steered towards, sadly, by very greedy companies. And it's not only the big names who want to take folks money unnecessarily, there are some online retailers happy to overcharge you as well.

Now, about that MVP v2.
I've been using one a lot recently. The tank I chose is called an Aspire ET-S and I have fitted a new atomiser 'head' to it called a BVC. It's FANTASTIC!
If you bought an MVP (£36+) 2 tanks (£12) and 52 replacement atomisers a year (2 weeks per atomiser x 2 tanks) (£100 or so) that'd be £160 ish. Ideally, you'd need a back-up battery or two as well.
An MVP also gets my vote . . . or a Leaf iStick, although many UK Vendors are awaiting deliveries and you probably want to get started sooner rather than later?
We must introduce you to spaniel . . . another of our lovely members.
