After reading about the Efest 3100mah purple 18650s earlier I decided to do a bit more digging.. the specs seemed to be too good to be true for my liking.. Unfortunately, Efest are at it again with their overstated claims. I've just come across this article and thought it be poignant that i post the link for all to read knowing that some of you are using them in the trust that the labels are factually correct. These cells are marked as 20amp continous discharge on the wrap but are actually not safe to use at anywhere near that. The cell used inside is a Panasonic NCR18650BE. It is not an IMR cell and should therefore be treated with utmost caution! Here are the specs for that battery: 18650 3200mah Panasonic NCR18650BE li-ion battery cell 3.6V 1.Quality Rechargeable Lithium-ion Cell 2.Model: 18650 3.Nominal Voltage: 3.6V 4.Nominal Capacity: 3200mAh 5.Made in Japan Details Product Description 1. Rated Capacity(Minimum): 3000mah (0.606A discharge at 20°C) 2. Nominal Capacity(Minimum): 3030mAh (0.606A discharge at 25°C) 3. Nominal Capacity(Typical): 3180mAh (reference only) 4. Nominal Voltage: 3.6V (0.606A discharge) 5. Discharging End Voltage: 2.5V 6. Charging Current (Std.): 0.909A 7. Charging Voltage: 4.20V±0.03V 8. Charging Time (Std.): 5.0hours 9. Continuous Discharging Current (Max.): 3.636A (0~ +40°C) 10. Internal Resistance: less than 40M?(AC Impedance 1kHz) 11. Weight: less than 48.5g 12. Operating Temperature Charge: 10~ +45°C Dicharge: -20~ +60°C 13. Storing Conditions less than 1month: -20 ~ +45°C less than 3months: -20 ~ +40°C less than 1year: -20 ~ +40°C Please read the following link if you own these cells. You'll need to open in a browser capable of translating from french to english such as Google Chrome. EFEST 3100MAH - 4amp max continuous discharge, 6.4amp pulseHere's the link to the test. This time in German. Test of purple 3100mah cellSome may not appreciate this information but i feel that you should at least be aware..

Cheers for the update Dan, I thought they were a bit too good to be true, very unsafe batteries. Thanks for highlighting it

Sadly I not surprised Dan I suspected they were those by the capacity, thanks for posting this is important for people to know as we mostly assume that all EFest Red & Purple are IMR or have Manganese in the cathode. They are a good battery for lower powered regulated mods that are being mis-sold in a way that puts the user in unnecessary risk.

If efest are continually telling fibs on the capacity of their batteries, is there any adverse information about the red ones? Those are the batteries that I use in both regulated and mechanicals, there is no way I see myself reaching the 'specified' amp limits but should I be looking for a more 'safer' option?

The main problem facing us now is that the Sony VTCs are getting very hard to find, what we need is a comprehensive list of what the capabilities are of the batteries available, along the lines of: battery name, size, mAh, Max Amp (both Continuous and Pulse).
As I was getting low on Sonys, i've just bought 4 x Samsung 18650-25R which are supposed to be good, I know the 20R were tested and actually okay up to 22A, but I haven't found any testing for the 25R.
EDIT: I have now on that German site linked to in the OP and according to them the Max is 20A for both those Sammys

The way I read it is, that as long as you build above 1 ohm then you should be fine because @ 1 ohm you will only be using the same Amps as what the Voltage of the Battery is, the main problem is for sub-ohmers who can go above the Amp limit of a lot of normal batteries of which even the AW IMRs can only cope with 10A, the lowest I have at the moment is my Doge @ 0.26 ohms which is still well within the 30A limit of a VTC5 @ 16.15A on a full 4.2v battery.

Torchy's blue and yellow (2200/3400 mah) 18650s are rebranded Panasonics. Get em from a vendor you can trust.

I went for Torchy's yellow 2100mah 18650 rebranded VTC4's , they certainly knock the socks off the purple Efest 2500mah 18650's in length of time vaping and longer life ( I hope ) as the Efest pair I have are already not lasting that long after only 3 months and that's in a regulated device running about 7-9 watts. You should be fine the way you use them as Bob said, but the battery this thread is about shouldn't be used in a mech as it is has cobalt in the cathode (normally called ICR) and not manganese like the safer chemistry ones (normally called IMR).
