My eldest hasn't used anything else since he got it. Luckily, I've got him a backup for Xmas cos I'm nice like that!

I'm far from an electrical expert but I think the RMS warms the coil quicker, like the boost/pre heat you get on some more expensive devices, wish the little thing would go a little lower though. Maybe keep RMS and programme it to go lower and not use watts on the screen, use 'I's 1-20 or something..!

Whether you are reading the output in RMS or Average does not make any difference to what its delivering to the atty - only the way you are reading it.
It still uses the same PWM waveform and cycle time/frequency.

I found the iStick is impressive initially, and it is for the expenditure, but other VW mods I have seem to give a much smoother and consistent vape.

I have to agree with the OP - too much power. Hence 2 have found their way into the 'backups' drawer, only to be used when necessary Seems a shame, as only going down to the battery voltage is a LET_DOWN!! (Checked with T-RMS meter and scope before drawering)

Its an issue mainly if you are using low ohms coils. For instance, mine won't fire at all on a dual coil set-up at 0.8 Ohms. It sees that as a "fault".
The answer is to use higher resistance coils ?
People seem to forget that not so long ago and average/standard coil was considered to be about 2.8 ohms.

That's the problem, most pre made coils now are 2 at most, the device needs to be toned down a little.

I think they are better adjusted to your own taste, just means winding it down a bit till you are happy with it. Ignore the numbers except for initial rough setting and then turn down to personal taste. For me it is mainly an "out and abouter" so I would only use one atty on it. For me it`s a dripper, it doesnt annoy me to top it up every now and again. You very quickly get into the way of it and I love the flavour from a dripper

I know, but the iStick on 9-10W is SLAYING the Vamo on full power. iStick set to 3.7v is like an inferno compared to Spinner at 4.8v. I think there's more to this than the iStick being about a whole volt over-powered at the bottom end of the range. Some Voodoo s*** man. Tell us about it. I've currently got a little iclear 16 with Red Astaire and a 1.8 coil and am only vaping at 6 watts yeah, just 6 flipping watts haha - 3.4 volts I believe it can't buck the power (as well as being over powered due to using Mean rather than RMS) so you either get the current power of the battery (so 4.1v fully charged gradually decreasing with use) or what you have it set to - whichever is the higher. So it might say its at 3.4v but it lies. Providing your coil can keep up with the wicking I don't really find this an issue - in fact with a 1.8ohm Aspire BVC I usually max the thing out (at about 15.5wish) - but once you get used to this higher powered vape it is hard to go back to lower powered devices. One thing I can say for certain 15w on an istick and 15w on my now dearly departed Vamo are clearly not the same thing

I think it is evident that even the istick itself doesn't know what it's doing, will all end in tears
I don't understand why everyone buys one

You know how everyone rated the MVP as the thing to have a while back? Well, in my own honest and humble opinion, the istick knocks spots, stripes and socks off it. It hits hard and long. Foolproof little device that packs all the punches! You wouldn't regret getting one and if you did, I'd buy it off you for price you paid!
