Our Postie has been delivering to our village for years, long before we moved here. He knows everything & he's a real gossip but since we moved in over 2.5 years ago I have never been red carded for anything. Either the neighbours take it, he leaves it somewhere safe & leaves a note or he signs for stuff on our behalf. And yes, he gets a Christmas tip. I never knew what our old postie looked like, I know what Marc used to do for a living, what colour he's painted his bedrooms & what dogs he has. Village life

katiekoo - like you I know Tony's wife's name, and where he goes on holiday, and how he collects fossils, and how his swollen ankle is doing his head in, and how he is now so used to wearing shorts all year round, he hardly ever wears long trousers! As you say, village life, can't beat it!

Funny thing is, the people who live in the old post office also used to work for RM & delivered to the village. They now organise & deliver the Christmas post fundraiser for village cards. I addressed one to 'Pete & Trudy, *** Lane' and it got there. Love it!!

I'm also lucky to have brilliant posties As I'm at home most mornings, I take in parcels for any of my neighbours & the posties we have are always more than happy to leave them with me as it helps them as well as the neighbours.

Yep... same here... forget the price of the house... the value of your neighbours is priceless, in more ways than one.

So I am currently around 100 miles from home. Despite this fact I have apparently 20 minutes ago signed for a royal mail package containing my long awaited (3 days) Atlantis with another istick and mini nautilus. I have rang my neighbour who confirms there is no package and no card etc and she has not signed for anything. Bastards. It's all over for the long haired, cowboy hat wearing thief of a postman when I see him. He looks like John Wayne and will soon be walking like him. Who the hell wears a cowboy hat when they don't even ride a horse anyway? He is clearly deranged. There may well be a reasonable explanation for the horrendous crime he has committed but I doubt it. Yehaaah! mmm probably Glad it arrived

BUT good neighbours are far more important than the value of your home, to me anyway. I'd live in a shed (some say I do) as long as I had neighbours that I got on with, and I know are looking out for me, as I do them. Can't imagine living next to people I didn't get on with... and we've all seen them on the telly.

I think that we do need to have trust in our posties- we all postie-stalk at some point.. i find it mostly goes pear shaped when temps deliver the post.
