First article on this mornings show was about e-cigs, exploding batteries and their use of the SGS standards testing logo. SGS confirmed that worldwide, they do not test any e-cigs so if you see any claiming to be SGS approved, then beware.
Don't know if the program is on I-player yet, but it will be available for 7 days.
ETA BBC1 was the channel it was on.

I saw it. Sadly I learned nothing about the brands involved, which is disappointing.
However, as you say, SGS do not test e-cigs, so any product with the logo is not legit.
- - -
I can't help thinking the BBC should have revealed the brand. The lady at the centre of the piece bought hers from a newsagent, (black cig-a-like) so I am thinking it can only be one of about 3 brands, 2 of which are in ECITA.
Diacetyl in liquid. Exploding batteries. False 'puff counts'. Fake safety logos.
Does it ever end? Why should anyone trust ECITA?

GunJack I agree with djs concerns over CITA, of the products with the fake SGS logo, they said if any of their members were selling them they would expect them to be withdrawn from the market. Hardly fills you with confidence of their membership and standards employed

reddragon I see where you're both coming from, but just bear in mind it's a bit of print on a package that's been shown to be fake here, not necessarily the product....would have been interesting to see if the product itself was "real" or "fake"... ...and where's the sense in dim blonde charging it whilst asleep?? Can you legislate for fake intelligence

Oh I quite agree GunJack I woke up an my feet were hot and there was flames, suggests the it was charging at the end of, and on, the bed My concern would be why they feel the need to put a fake standards logo on the packaging? Legitimises a dodgy product? Trying to indicate it is something it is not? Not got the answers, just my concerns.

...and where's the sense in dim blonde charging it whilst asleep?? Can you legislate for fake intelligence That's a bit offensive and not like you to say something like that. Like it or not people have been charging their mobiles unattended for years and they have not caused as many problems as the cheap probably fake e-cigs. These people don't belong to forums and expect e-cigs to work in the same way, we know that it is best not to charge any lithium battery unattended, but that doesn't make people who don't stupid, careless or even reckless. 75 fires now, that is a problem that should not be blamed on the victims even if some of them have a low IQ. You can't eliminate the risk with lithium batteries, but poor charges and batteries make it at least an order of magnitude worse. I think the the Fire Service should have at least stated on the program not to leave them charging unattended and ideally extended that to all rechargeable electronics. ECITA's best channel for keeping us safer is to help the standards organisations informed and work with the to improve the standards and they are doing exactly that.

The packaging right at the end is of a EGO-CE6, whether or not this is the villain in question your guess is as good as mine ???

ECITA themselves are tying to raise all standards as a 'group' of companies. It's individual companies that seem to be letting the team down.

and what have we all learned today?
you can not buy a cheap ecig and expect it to be safe and as good as a provari
if you buy cheap ecig or and cheap product then you know it has been made very cheap and the safty in the item will not have any proper afty in it at all its the people who buy the cheap batteys that are giveing us a bad name not us as vapers
the rule of the day is dont buy cheap stuff and expect it not to explode
love you long time
