Back in the days when I used to do naughty things like underage drinking, a pisstaking bouncer suggested he'd seen me on TV a while ago and pretended to pause for a second to think before launching into a pretty ropey impression of Roland's little friend off of Grange Hill to sniggers from his colleagues. Roland and all that 'just say no' stuff was a little before my time but I knew what the Muppet meant.
Being 16 and more than slightly tipsy, I didn't stop to think before pointing out the massive coincidence that I had seen him on TV also. Crimewatch. His colleagues started to wet themselves and I began to fear the worst when I felt an arm round my shoulder. But to his credit it was a pat on the back and a queue jump/free entry. He took being outbantered/shown up by a kid about as well as he could.
Funny how little things like that stick in the mind, it feels like a lifetime ago.
