Apparently there's a nationwide outage/problem with VM this evening - no eBay, no Hotmail, no Messenger and, for those affected who want to buy stuff, no PayPal! Oh and just to cap it all, no Virgin Media website either. Doh! Fox >

Ah! That explains why I couldn't use paypal for my mega-menthol order from safercigs - had to use NoChek instead (bit scary never used that one before)
Wonder if that was why my TV had sound but no pictures when I switched it on tonight? Had to do an official engineer's system restart on it - switch off at mains, wait 30 seconds and switch back on

It's been the same here as well Foxy . . . several neighbours have been round tonight to check it wasn't just them, all seems ok now though.

Don't switch the modem off (to reboot) some people have completely lost connectivity doing so. 'We' are told (support forum) that engineers are working flat out on the problem and hope to get it sorted out soon. Fox

Blimey Foxy, this is me . . . I don't do technical stuff like that, although one of the neighbour's tried and went phut completely as you say.
Apparently their 151 phone number was also down.

Yeah - if you have a problem, don't call us. You'd think a telephony company would know how to run a telephone system perhaps? LOL I've seen a massive improvement in speed since about 1930. It's been countrywide, so those on cable who were not affected, lucky you!

Well now, see here Perpy, to reboot you walk across the room to the wall where you will find a switch thingy - you move that to the off position, wait 30 seconds and move it back to the on position.
