hi to all well into my re coiling now, using .3 wire from crazywire company (kanthel ), am finding that im getting discoloration and sometimes quite dark around the coil and cotton after a few days. i run blow torch down the wire first to aid making the wire better to work with, but i think it may be this thats coursing the fast discoloration, i have seen other vids of people just using the wire right off the reel. do you think im pushing to much power through coil, is the discoloration normal ? oh i use Chinese cotton the one you follow the line when cutting
any help appreciated

Its normal on any coil after a few days. Its the caramelised remnants of your juice. Quickest way to get rid is to remove the old wick and dry burn your coil until its burnt off all the crud.

As @windows says, it's quite normal, and is just caramelised juice on your wick. If it is starting to affect your taste, remove the wick, dryburn the coil to burn off any accumulated gunk, and then rewick.

Depends a lot on the liquid you use custards and tobaccos gunk coils and wicks more quickly. I had found that if you clean your kanthal a clean with fine wet'n'dry paper then IPA and don't flame the coils stay cleaner for longer, but don't bother as the wicks still gunk up just as quickly as before.

just another quick question, what wicking material do you's use, im asking because i use muji Japanese cotton and find it easy to use and taste and vapes well. also i here people talking about sticking in more cotton to get a even better flavor ,so could you cover over the coil alittle ?

I use japanese cotton. I'm from the less is more kind of school. Tighter cotton means more threads so possibly more juice at the area. Looser cotton means faster wicking and less constriction. Its a fine balance but just keep messing until you find your sweet spot, if you have it too packed you'll have dry hits, too loose and possibly gurgling.

Sligjt colouration is normal its the nicotine oxidising and impurities (and I use that term loosely! ) in the juice caramelising. You domt mention dry hits or burnt taste but it coukd also be your wick isnt efficient enough to provide adequate loquid to your coil

Hi tom this cotton you use is it the one you have to cut following the lines ? ( its built up of layers ). i have two KT subs tanks on the go using the rba set up, and to this day i havnt had any leaks or dry hits, tho occasionally it does spit up juice, i kinda read somewhere you can put in some extra cotton to prevent the spiting up juice ?

Yeh thats the stuff. PB says that he finds he has less spitting with a more tightly packed coil. Personally I haven't experienced this because I don't pack it tight. I vape at higher wattages so quick wicking is my main goal

after removing the wick I put them in the ultrasonic cleaner - if they afterwards are still fine = having a resistance - good - otherwise I make a new coil
