Wouldn't be without my iPhone. I have tried android twice. Once with a nexus 4 and once with a moto g. I lasted all of two weeks with both before putting them back in the box and putting my sim back on my iPhone 5.
I always hear people banging on about how closed off apples iOS is and how 'open' android is. Maybe because I always jailbreak and never upgrade until the jailbreak is available, but this is completely lost on me. There's is zero the android phones could do that I can't do on my iPhone. I don't use iTunes to buy music, I download music from whoever service I want and drag it to my iTunes library and click sync. Hardly any more difficult that dragging and dropping. Only music I have from iTunes is stuff I've downloaded on my phone when I've been out, heard a song a liked and grabbed it before I forgot. I can customise my phone how I want. Themes. Tones. Messaging apps. I don't get the 'it's more open' argument at all.
In the end the deal breaker was the lack of decent browsers (I wrongly assumed the browser I use on my iPhone would be available on android) and no tap to the top. That and the keyboard (even swiftkey etc) was appalling to use.
As for price. I buy outright and get a sim only. Cost me £780 over two years. £540 for the phone then a £10 sim only, currently get 1000mins. 5000sms and 1gb data. I sell the old iPhone for usually around £200-£250(depending on what accessories I have with it) put that in a savings account and add £10 a month to it. Two years later I have enough to upgrade and start again. I've done this with every iPhone since the 3G. But will be keeping the 5 for another year as opposed to the usual two since I'm strapped cash wise right now, and I don't like large phones so am hoping they refresh the 4" line next year.
For me you can keep your 4k screens and 3gb ram. I'll stick to iPhones thanks.
