I bought this kayfun 3.0 from fasttech as my step in to the world of rebuildables www.fasttech.com/p/1978600I finally figured out how to work it after wasting about 3ml of juice that kept leaking out lol Now my problem is all I seem to get is a strange nasty taste from it, I'm not sure how to describe it..like a burnt rubbery/plastic type taste. I took the whole thing apart and juice is definitely getting to the wick and I washed and scrubbed it out completely and put a new wick and coil in to it but I'm still getting this nasty taste for some reason. Anyone know what the problem could be and a possible solution?

Can you take a photo of the setup?
Sometimes, when the wick or cotton is too tight, you may get a weired taste... someother times if the coil is almost on the poles, you get a weired taste as well...
I guess you cleaned it thorough before you used it...

Exactly as qsplan has said. Give it a good wash to make sure it's got no machine oil etc on it. And as above most crap tastes are down to wicking. Less is more and you might have slightly too much wick in the coil which is choking it as it expands slightly.

If you can upload some pictures amygx that would help us no end in trying to decipher why you are getting this odd taste. I would concur with dalealan though, it is more than likely due to a wicking issue. What are you using to wick, cotton or rayon?

I may have got rid of the nasty taste...time will tell. I tried to take a picture but my phone camera wouldn't pick up enough detail to show it properly. However, this image is basically how I have it ..and I'm using silica pre-made wire/wicks from fasttech. I took it completely apart again last night and left it soaking in hot water with some washing up liquid, this morning I washed it again in pure warm water... Then I covered it in plain flour (I know lol) to try lift off any oils etc that may have been left on the parts, then I washed and scrubbed it all again in warm water. After drying it all out and scrubbing and poking every orifice I put it all back together with a new coil and wick and it worked well for a few minutes until I realised I'd trapped/blocked up the juice channels with the wick and it started burning So I changed the wick again and NOW I'm getting a bit of flavour without the nasty taste, though a tiny bit of the nasty taste is still lingering. Maybe I should try cotton but I only have cotton balls at the moment and not sure if those will be any good? I'll continue choking on it and let you know if the taste improves

Have you checked the coil to make sure you don't have any 'hot spots' on it? That will give you a strange metallic taste. IE is the coil (with no wick in) glowing evenly, or is one part glowing a lot brighter than the rest.

Just to say I've sorted out the problem. I cleaned it again using warm water and a syringe, I injected water through every hole and orifice on the base and then dried it all out. Then I cleaned it all again in fresh warm water and dried it all out. Put it back together with a fresh coil and wick and just to make sure I killed off any remaining bad taste that may have still been in there I filled it with a VERY strong custard mix I had in the cupboard and just left it standing overnight. Yesterday morning I took a vape from it and just got a nice strong custard without the bad taste I was getting before. So this morning I cleaned it all out again, dried it and filled with Red Astaire and a fresh coil and wick.. ...been using it for the last few hours and tastes amazing now
