Just spotted this @spikeyfridge. CTRL-D is your friend. Ditches the Win8 default (i.e. crap) display and drops in a normal type desktop.
Also, if you haven't discovered already, if you want to run a program and know its name but can't immediately find it, go to the wanky panel display and start typing the program name. Available programs will be displayed on the right.
Ever tried saving a file from Excel or similar in Windows 8? File. "Share" (what?). Save. It brings up a list of all the locations you had loaded or saved from recently. Where's the easy peasy 'Save to Location' applet? Oh, you have to click on the yellow icon at the bottom to get to it. After umpteen more clicks you can actually save it. Great productivity enhancement there.
And charms can f* right off.

Doesn't even say please... its telling me, not asking!  This is Windows 8 by Mico$oft. And you expect it to do do what you want to. I HATE WINDOWS 8 EVEN 8.10 If I wasn't afraid to break my computer and lose all my stuff I would migrate to Linux. But I'm a computer idiot and too chicken. |

Got to admit that Windows 8(.1) took a bit of getting used to. But after a bit of tweaking, I quite like it.
