I picked up some rechargeable batteries for use with a Nintendo wii AA's and AAA's (Energizer brand) as i'd read that my Nitecore I4 charger is able to charge them. I had a go at charging 4 of the AAA's and the charger seemed to be blinking away happily but was taking ages once it had got to the top of the three status lights blinking. They were getting on the very warm side too so I whipped them out and checked them on a voltage meter and got a reading of 1.4 volts.
Is this ok as I thought they were supposed to be 1.2 volts? Or is this the nominal voltage. Don't really understand this...
Can I leave them in the i4 until the lights stop blinking and is the fact they are getting on the warm /hot side anything to worry about? None of my other batteries for vaping even get warm when charging (18350's and 18650's)
My little girl will be so happy if she can get to play super mario galaxy with her daddy without being interrupted by the old flat battery scenario

NiCads and NiMHs do get warm when charged. My D4 finishes charging at just over 1.5Volts - within spec.
I've just popped a NiMH on to double check, haven't bought Nicads for ages so I assume your's are NiMH??

Are you not meant to charge the triple A's on low ? Cant find the instructions for my d2 at the moment but im sure you push one of the buttons for a few seconds while charging and display changes to low power.
Edit - just noticed you have I4 not D4 so probably not the same

If they're less than 700mAh then yes, but being AA's they'll be well above that limit. Charging them on 'low' will reduce the heating, but your girl's gonna be waiting longer
D4/I4 are essentially the same bar the display

Can't check the actual batteries at the moment as i'm at work (skiving). But just found what I think is the same shop on ebay that I got them from and they are NiMH.
It was the triple A's that I was referring to (I got some double A's too though). The triple A's are 700 mah I think.
Don't think the i4 has any options to go on low power or anything like that as far as I know...
I did read something somewhere about needing to charge them as pairs though. Think maybe this halves the current

1.48Volts and still charging. I have to fill more than 2 slots on this to split the current, can't speak for the I4 tho. These are 2750mAh so your AAAs must be more than 700, probably around 850mAh?
The charging as pairs is only relevant to them getting a balanced charge, so they have the same volts and the same charge when used together. Same theory as 18650s in series.
You referred to the D2. You have one?

Hi Joe,
I have been using my Nitecore I4 to recharge the batteries in the kids WII for the last year. The batteries are Ni-MH 2100mAh AA size. I charge them in pairs and while they may get a bit warm, they never get HOT. The ability to charge Ni-MH batteries was one of the features I considered when I chose the Nitecore I4.
Cheers I

It's borderline then, maybe better to go for the 'low' setting. I thought everyone was selling the 850s now. It does get slow toward the end of the charge cycle for niMH batteries, due to the method used. 1.49 and still going

On the I4, bays 1&2 and 3&4 are paired, so if you are charging 2 batteries and you put them in bays 1&3 or 2&4, they will get full charge capacity, but in bays 1&2 or 3&4, they will charge at half speed... does that make sense?

Surely 1.2v rechargeable batteries under load ARE 1.5v AA?
All my NiMH get hot. I reckon if you are charging them on something that's giving a read out and you trust that charger, take them off charge just around 1.35v
Throwaway batteries start at 1.5 (sometimes 1.6) and drop very quickly to the 1.35 range.
Different chemistrys...innit.

Cheers izan I wouldn't say they were hot as such. I could hold them without burning myself anyway. What voltage do yours come out at when finished charging and do the little lights stop blinking?

When a niMH comes off the charger it's at roughly 1.5volts. Leave it to rest an hour and it'll drop back to 1.4 - 1.44 volts.
ETA: If a battery drops below 1.36Volts when rested throw it away.

Guess maybe they are old stock or something. Hope that doesn't make them dangerous or anything?
