I saw these mentioned here before Xmas so decided to take a punt and get a pack - I have been using Jonco's microcoils in one of my tanks and have been using the premade coils from slowtech in my others all rewicked with rayon and I've been pretty happy with them, so much so I bought a load of wire and some jigs to have a go at making my own coils. I had intended to give the vertical a try once the premade coil needed replacing however this morning I couldn't be arsed to faff about burning the coil and changing the wick on the micro coil as I had a feeling it was going to be "one of those days" where I would spend ages dropping bits, or not being able to thread the wick or getting it too thin or too fat etc. (Being female trust me you do know when its going to be "one of those days") so instead I swapped the microcoil for the premade vertical one. I figured even if it wasn't quite as good as the microcoil I'd manage for a day or so however .... WOWWWWWWW!!! How on earth going vertical could make such a big difference to a stock coil is beyond me but it really really does! I've even ramped up the watts on my MVP from 6.5 to 8.5 and its hitting perfectly (for me) I can't really tell from the photos what its wicked with, it doesn't look like silica to me, and I don't know that I'll be able to rebuild it vertically but heck at the price I'll just let someone else do it and buy them ready made. Obviously its early days yet - I've only been using it a few hours, but it hasn't really been out of my hand since I swapped it over. Just ordered another 2 sets www.fasttech.com/p/2018800 Sods law really - should have tried this BEFORE I went and ordered a pack of muji pads and extra kanthal

Little update on these - I don't think I'll be using them again (sods law I have another 5 pack on the way to me) ... at least not without a bit more research, perfectly happy with the vape I got but once it needed changing I decided to take it apart to see if I could rewick it and to see what the wick was and thats where I started to have doubts/concerns. The wick itself appears to be cotton of some kind however it is wrapped around with 2 thick sheets of what appeared to be blotting paper! Its not any form of cotton or silica, it really did appear to be thick blotting paper folded over a couple of times. Its probably fine but I haven't ever seen anything about using something like blotting paper in a coil head so no idea of any concerns or not about using something like that but until I know for sure I'd rather leave them be.

Snow! I ordered some to try a while back and although the flavour and vapor were quite good I found they made the draw too tight for me, so I'm going to pull them apart and re-coil them the normal way, more spare coils, I've just taken a new one apart, mine had two sheets! one looked like cotton and the other looked like blotting paper, I pulled the cotton one around and although it looked like pressed cotton strands when I set it on fire it smelt like burnt paper, totally different smell I got from the cotton wool I set fire to double check the smells, the one that looked like blotting paper I could tear in half like paper, I got the same result when I set it on fire, burnt paper, I still have no idea what the wicks are, but they certainly smell like paper when you set it on fire, that and the fact I have no idea what the wicks are made from is enough reason for me to give them a wide berth, I like to know what my wicks are,,,

Right first ever photo so bare with me! The top bit is the outside wrap, I pulled it apart to try and see what it is, looks like cotton but smells like burnt paper when you set fire to it, different smell to the bit of cotton wool I set fire to, The one below is the inner wrap, tears like paper, looks like blotting paper, smells like paper when you set fire to it,, I've no real idea what either of these wicks are made of, but one thing I noticed is when I set them on fire, even though they are around 10mm x 25mm the fumes hit me right in the back of the throat, It's a shame that FT don't tell us what they use for wicks in their coils, Mow,,,

Never heard of that wick before but to answer snows query as to why the vertical coil may vape better is because air flow will be better as there is no wick inside the coil so the airflow path is unobstructed.

Thanks mowjo thats exactly it - yes mine had the 2 sheets as well and it just doesn't look or feel like cotton the first thing I thought when I saw it was blotting paper. It ripped like blotting paper too when I was faffing about trying to figure out what it was, I'm just not happy with not knowing what it is when its something I am inhaling.
