“The parent compounds could be converted to something else, something that could be toxic,” Pankow said.
COULD be toxic rather that definitely carcinogenic? TRANSLATES to - I need more research money from the ANTZ!

“If you make a comparison with e-cigarettes, people have only been smoking for a relatively short period of time,” Pankow said. “It takes time for them to take their toll. It would be a false sense of security.”
1st thing it isnt smoking its VAPING
they say it takes time for them to take their toll............... so if i gave you a person thats been vaping for 6 years and a person thats smoked for 6 years who's going to be worse off?
so if i can still get a nicotine intake that i desire but increase my health/life wether its by 1 year- 10years i'd let time take its toll through vaping

Aye, we vape cos we know they're safer.Maybe not 100% but better than smoking. They want them to be safe as a baby's tears.

Ron posted this thread earlier, which is an open letter from Clive Bates in response to this article.

If these people are so convinced, why don't they invest a few days of their time and actually investigate to see what they find? How hard can it be to test some vapour? Oh, that's right, it's already been done and the findings were far too good. So, the old argument was "we don't know what's in them" and the new argument is "we don't know what's in them and we are too lazy to do something useful and actually find out, it's just easier to say "we don't know what's in them"" Brick walls, heads, banging....

Research is all about funding, they can't come to a conclusive result or the salary sorry funding dries up!

This kind of rubbish research really winds me up, especially as it's going to be published in a respected science journal. It seems that you don't have to replicate normal use though, not just here but in any research. I studied the chemicals that are affecting bees for my degree and the majority of papers that stated that they are affecting them didn't replicate a normal scenario where the bee would come into contact with them or even in the same quantities. How is the research relevant then?

Oh dear. They are gonna ban smoke machines from the theatres/clubs. Show us some real research!!
ETA: Oh, they'll have to ban certain athsma inhalers too. And what are they gonna use for air cons, since it's not safe to inhale PG.
600 dgrees?? wtf!! Surprised they didn't use Fahrenheit to make that number bigger!! Can't wait for Dr F's research to be completed.

So far press response pretty balanced, not quite the shitstorm so far. Think the ANTZ might be a bit peeved at lukewarm response to latest smear attempt.
