so am i which makes me think from reading what you are all saying the pin has to be in the socket somehow somewhere, i have got someone coming to unscrew the socket to see if they can find it but am hoping i can fix the plug if they do and i would only buy from sellers on here anyhow been caught out before so have learned my lesson

I would avoid any plug that uses a plastic earth pin, it shows a level Of penny pinching (by the manufacturer) that makes me nervous.

If it's an old non 'gated' socket then it makes total sense, as the live and neutral pins will go straight in without the earth. Or the gate could be jammed open. Very often these older sockets had openings in the back so the earth pin may have dropped into the back box.
I'd be surprised if it wasn't more modern tho.

Hi Guys im back and mystery solved the socket in question is a double socket and the reason i could plug other stuff in was it was the other socket that the charger was in oops so have fixed the problem but have been told to bin the plug and replace so i have to buy another one oh well you win some loose some i guess but thanks for all your help guys

In most circumstances, I'd agree with you, but not in this instance Unless you know what your doing you should never attempt working on mains electricity and most importantly isolate the circuit first then test it to prove its dead. If in doubt call in an electrician. Seriously, you'd be lucky to get a second chance if you make a mistake !
