Hi all i have not been around much to post lately but i do keep up regularly with the forum.
i have a couple of questions that are puzzling me & hope you good people can help me with them so here goes.
My grandson has recently started vaping & as i'm an 'old hand' at mixing he asked me to mix him some juices, i gave him a list of flavours i have & told him to let me know which he would like, nic strength & how many ml. He text me back with his choices but said he only wanted 6mg juice i questioned how many cigs he smoked to which he said 20 + lately so i explained he would need at least 18mg to be able to completely stop smoking (as this is what he was hoping for) & to ensure he didn't get the dreaded cravings, to which he replied "it makes me cough" at 18mg" I told him i could mix the juice with lower pg at 18mg to try & stop the coughing but give him the strength nic he needed, i mixed him Red Astaire & Blueberry Candy at 55/45 at 17mg nic & told him to let me know how he went on with them.
i haven't heard anything from him so i text him today & asked how he was going on with the juices & he told me "the nic is too strong, it is burning my lips on exhale & overpowering the flavours"
i have never heard this before & as i have been a member on AAEC for nearly 2 years i'm sure i would have seen if someone had questioned this before, i had mixed his juices at 20% flavour so cannot understand the nic overpowering the flavour as through my own experience of vaping i thought nic was more or less tasteless.
Has anyone any ideas what could be going on here?
Sorry for the essay but i thought it better to explain as much as possible & TIA for any replies.

Well, I've never heard of vaping burning the lips on exhaling, that is a new one on me Why don't you try him on a minty flavour and see if that makes any difference. Mint is cooling so he shouldn't really suffer from any burning effects I would have thought. Maybe also put him on an 80% VG juice, it might really be the throat hit that's causing him problems but he's describing it incorrectly to you, it's a softer smoother vape at 80%. I use Totally Wicked's Ice Menthol concentrate and that has a real icy effect, definitely no burning with that one

What kit is he using dinamic22? If he's gone straight for one of the off the shelf sub ohm kits, that could be part of the problem and he would need lower nic.

Hello Di, I thought I hadn't seen you around for a while. Nice to see you. What device is your grandson using to vape with ? Am just wondering if it might be turned up too high ?

Thanks toots but he wasn't interested in Mint or Menthol flavours he wanted strong fruit type flavours thats why i mixed at 20% as i usually start a new vaper lower flavour so that more can be added if they want more taste, its got me & scratching my head, i have Googled the burning lips sensation before posting on here but no results came up so i am totally clueless.

Hi Julie Phoenixflame (Julie)Yes i'm still around but i haven't got as much time on my hands these days as my sister has dragged me (kicking & screaming lol) out of retirement to help her run a sandwich shop as her boss has taken over a pub/restaurant just outside York (Billborough). I'm not sure of the device he's using, its some type of mech mod i think from his description & hes using glass clearos with dual coils with it. I did wonder if he had it set too high but i don't have knowledge of mech mods so could not be sure.

I can taste nic, it tastes kind of peppery and I do cough if it's too high. It doesn't burn my lips though. Some fruit flavours give me mouth ulcers and sore lips.

I have never used anything with dual coils in so I cant really help with that. I wouldn't really think its likely to be the nicotine, does he find it ok when he uses lower nic strength ?

If he's using a high power device giving out lots of vapour then he may have to lower the nic content. I got a Aspire Sub Ohm & Atlantis before Christmas and I now vape at 3mg in it! I coughed my guts up first time I used it and put 18mg juice in it.
I usually vape at 18mg on "regular" ecigs.

lairey thanks for your reply, i'm not sure of the device as i said above i think its some kind of mech mod from his description, he did mention sub ohms when he picked up the juices but i told him to get used to the vaping first & i told him i didn't know anything about that only bits i had read on here, he said he wasn't going to try it he just wanted to know what it was. Until he gets home from work later i can't check to see what exactly he is using/doing i just wanted to try & understand what he had said about the nic overpowering the flavours & the lips burning etc.

DiscoDes i'll have a chat with my grandson & tell him what you have said, autumntwist32 yes there is a tiny bit of a peppery taste/smell to nic but i wouldn't have thought it could overpower the juice when i mixed it at 20% flavour as my grandson has stated, i've been vaping 21 months & never tasted the nic just the flavour, thanks for your reply though i appreciate your views as we are not all the same are we. Phoenixflame (Julie) Julie our Dominic has only started vaping on Sunday & as he works long hours i don't see him very much usually christmas & birthdays you know how it is (unless he wants something of course lol) so i don't really know what hes tried but i have some answers to go back to him now.

anything over 12mg makes me cough... Just down to individual tastes and reactions I suppose. I'm sure with a case of trial and error you can get a happy medium of enough nic to satisfy but not so much to cough Dont forget that when you start vaping it is a little different to smoking... might just need a little time to adjust. Good luck to you both!

When I looked up PG allergy a while back I vaguely remember mentions of sore lips. Burning lips however I would normally associate with actual liquid making its way up the chimney rather than the vapour.

Sorry to be blunt but I'm afraid that the situation that you find yourself in is a consequence of not mixing him what he required. Doesn't like menthol and mix at 6mg, you mixed him Red Astaire at 18mg. A strong menthol which Red Astaire is plus the high nic will give the results that he is describing. Initially he stated that the juice was making him cough, this is the high nic content added to sub ohm menthol vapour. Later he stated that the liquid is burning his lips which i suspect he is saying to prod you along to mix the next batch with less nicotine in it rather it than actually burning his lips 6mg blueberry candy 50/50 should solve the problem.

*-SARIN-* i appreciate you taking time to reply but i think you have misread my posts as i mixed my grandson what he asked for Red Astaire & Blueberry Candy i had told him what Red Astaire was made up of before i mixed for him, its the strong menthol taste eg Like Menthol cigs he didn't want & i certainly wouldn't say Red Astaire is strong menthol TBH. Dominic knows his own mind hes 21 not a slip of a kid i wouldn't have been able to force anything on him if he didn't want it, i only tried to explain to him that 6mg wouldn't cut any cravings when he was used to smoking 20 + cigs daily, i was given the same advice by many members when i joined the forum, i had been using 12mg as i thought because i only smoked 9/10 daily that 12mg would be fine, they advised that i use 18mg. My grandson only asked me about sub ohming when he picked his juices up on Tuesday & as stated above i explained that as i didn't know enough about this kind of vaping that i couldn't really advise but he would be better getting used to vaping as i know it before trying the sub ohms. My grandson then said "i'm not going to do sub ohms i just wanted to know what it was"
