The dinky size and clear screen along with the (so far) good construction would point me in the direction of an iStick, and on top a Mini Nautilus or Protank 2 or 3. The heads in both are easily changeable, and are not expensive compared with a packet of fags, and they both chuck out a very respectable vape for a beginner. Even if your mum progresses to something larger, requiring a higher wattage to get the best from it, the iStick would still do the job.

I started out on mech mods back in the day. Back then there were only two choices - cigalike or mech. I chose mech. Nothing to be scared of..... Istick's can change the settings in your pocket. best get her a lanyard.. Mech? Does she want big or small? If she wants big - then something that takes 18650....if she wants small then no bigger than an 18500 battery PeppertyAnd an extra +1 for the protank

I think ive just invented my old ladys next device.

Personally I would recommend an MVP, absolutely rock solid device. Or if you want something smaller the istick

its a mine field of options and everyone is going to give their 10pence worth so i thought i would throw mine in.. my first mech mod from the CE5 batteries was the VAMO v5... for the money it was the best value for money.. there are now lots of mods out for the same sort of money.. i was just getting more serious about vaping but didnt want to spend big bucks on the high end mods.. got the VAMO v5 and it ticked all the boxes for less than £30.. resistance readings, variable power settings.. and looks nice.. only down side i would say its MASSIVE and i mean HUGE with the 18650 batteries in.. but a great conversation starter in the bars... often starting with something like " WOW yours is massive " can create a lot of size envy with fellow new vapers. but a year on im now looking to upgrade.. ( on a budget though.. )

Hi I'm a newbie and I started on the aspire cf mod with Atlantis but I had a lot of help and knew what battery etc to use , but it has a lot of safety features as well maybe you could use something like that but with the nautilus there only £25 I also have a vamo v5 which I find really easy as well I have an iclear30s on that

Smokjoy have a sub ohm battery out now as well, it's a spinner type too so adjustable unlike the Aspire or the Ego-1, goes up to 30watt. Plenty of choice about now.

I would actually like to have this as well then I would have the aspire cf mod mech one with my own battery and a variable one as well because I love the carbon fibre style they look real nice in your hand www.dropbox.com/s/7a5fxy4874scygi/IMG_20150214_085834_046-1.jpg?dl=0here's a pic I'm going to have a nosey at this one as well fr variable

I don't recommend mechanical mods at all, especially for a beginner. Now you can find amazing regulated devices, like IPV, Smok Xpro series, Istick. With a mini subtank you can try to rebuild your first coils. It's a very nice vape.
