Well am sorry to cause controversy but don't see why 'mechanical mods are so hard for the beginner' khemasBack in the day when I started you had one of two choice - cigalike of some description or mech. Only problem with mechs back then was stacking your batteries (highly dangerous) and that was about it If she wants faff free basic tank this would be good www.p-vaper.co.uk/epages/es152439.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/es152439/Products/118 and cheap heads too or can be rebuilt. Cheap mechs? Hmm..china? But china are on holiday now But totally disagree with khemas about not recommending mech mods for a beginner. They're about as simple as you can get if you don't sub-ohm

Things have come a long way since I joined up here & gave the other forum members the pleasure & thrill of my company......... ....Back then, an ego was the mod to drool over & there wasn't really anything else, apart from a ciggie look-a-like...it was tiny as far as mods go & it's what I started on (In fact, it was a Riva)..........However, as stated, things have progressed in leaps & bounds & the choice is endless...but if I was being asked advice by a new vaper, I would have no hesitation in recommending an i-stick too......particularly for a woman.....it fits perfectly in the hand, pocket or handbag/purse (apparently.... )......it's regulated, easy to use......practically any atty looks good on it.....choice of colours.........& very reasonably priced......That's my 2 pennies worth, but no-one listens to me anyway........... "Life...........is just a bowl of tricks!!!!!!"

VTR Queen,
Mechanical mods, when properly used, are totally safe, I agree. But only when properly used. Actually, I'm an high end user and to my opinion, mechanical mods are great for subohm purposes but a beginner generally (without proper advices) won't use the right batteries and danger is here...When you don't realise subohm coils, regulated devices are to my mind more convenient, especially with all those new cheap chipsets. On the other hand, some mechanical mods are just stunning (regarding to the mod aspect).

But in reality what are the chances of a beginner wanting to sub-ohm? khemas. I don't sub-ohm. It's very specialized. It's a void argument in my honest opinion

I don't know how are UK beginners but in France (where I live), it's not rare that someone, adviced by geek friends, begin with a combo such as mech/RDA ! Honestly, making 4 coils around a 2mm tube is very easy and rebuildable building isn't a pain anymore like two years ago, when you had to fight against shortage (genisis). And that's the problem. Easy but potentially dangerous. A good advice is absolutely compulsory when regulated box mods are easy to use and embark some protections.

I see what your saying @johanino . . . as indeed I agree with khemas's point. Where it falls down, is that new to ecigs folks don't always come to a forum looking for advice on kit, they may not get the best advice either if they use a B&M store ( depends how knowledgeable the staff are ) . . . having the correct batteries in any mechanical mod is in my mind vital, whether you sub ohm or not. I wonder how many new users would be aware of the importance and not purely be swayed on price. Personally, I wouldn't recommend a mechanical device for a beginner . . . purely because they, like us all were, are looking to replicate the smoking sensation as closely as possible. For my money a VV/VW something can do this easily & with little faff, whether it be a Spinner battery or something a little grander. But that's just my opinion.

Yap. That's the point in my opinion. RDA are much easier to build than our good old genisis. When I started vaping, I waited something like 1 year before tempting my first coil (on a MM vapor DID, good old times...). Today, guys come and ask immediately to a mech mod and a RDA clone. It's cheap, it's powerful, it's easy to build and it's dangerous if the staff don't advice the good battery.
I don't know in the UK but in France, mod explosions are frequent...Fortunately no dead for now...

It's a void argument in my honest opinion Me ha ha i started on the Atlantis and aspire cf mod, but I bought it from a place where he went through everything and sold me the correct Sony 30A but the aspire mod has safety features I think its a little different then most mechs, but I like you love mechs I find them really easy to use but if the man hadn't of explained it to me I wouldn't of had a clue about batteries I was very lucky to have someone who used and sold set ups like that advice me correctly as I would of bought any battery , he made sure that I got everything from him and it was the right stuff down to the charger even, he let me try it first that's why I wanted one , he did advice the Cronus to me for a beginner but I liked the Atlantis more so was set on that , but he did tell me it was more for an advanced user

So I just put together the SMOK XPro M65 and RSBT and I am well impressed. Its lighter than my Bec Pro and the RSBT creates far more vapour compared to my fogger 4.1 as well as being lighter, easier to work with and I pressume there will be less leaks. My mom will be happy with this I am sure, can not wait until I finish work ^^ oh and I just bought another RSBT just for myself!

Unfortunately I had to return the Smok XPro due to wattage drop problem.
I was looking for a replacement and I am considering the ISTICK 50W. Would that be a good mod to go for? also I hate to ask but.... Did anyone ever hear any problem with it like wattage drop?

O no what a shame I think the isticks are ideal and with the 30 watt and 50watt they have addressed the problems they had with 20 as the pin is spring loaded now and your mum can pick her own colour, if you look on the bargains bit on this forum there's a post with a great deal on them with a discount code ,I'll look now for you and get straight back milomonkey

I agree with @johanino Mechanical mods are okay for beginners however, I'd strongly recommend using a Vape Safe Reusable from C9V (around £14 inc P&P) or buy a couple of Smok 7A Safety Fuse (VapeEscape, ~£5 inc P&P) alongside perhaps a SS Nemesis Clone if she's good with a bottom switch (FT, ~£13 using PP, UK between £20 & £25), an ohm meter (around £14 from the UK inc P&P) and ('cause I really like them) a Kayfun Lite clone (~£15 FT or ~£20 in the UK). Don't forget some cheap wire snips, set of precision screw drivers and tweezers. All that probably comes in around £60
