I generally don't ask - to me, it means that I think I may be doing something wrong, and, patently, I'm not. If there are any questions, then I answer them candidly and honestly. Given the kit I use, I rarely get challenged, but I do get a lot of interest.

I've asked a couple of time, "do you mind if I use my electronic cigarette", no one ever knows what they are.
I asked in one pub what the company policy was and she didn't know, so I just said I'll just do it then. In the restaurant bit I was vaping after my meal and a waiter did a double take, then saw I wasn't smoking and left me to it.
One lady asked in another restaurant if I was smoking, as her hubby was hooked up to an oxygen tank, when I explained it, they were fine.

I don't go out much but did get caught out vaping on an almost empty train a few months ago. The train guard walked past just as I was exhaling a huge plum of vapour from my GGTS He also did a double take & then said "WTF" (but un-abbreviated ) Spent the rest of the journey letting him know about e-cigs as he was a smoker that had tried every other method going to give up smoking & had failed. Gave him lots of suppliers business cards

I just stroll up, all swagger with my ecig hanging out of my mouth, lean in a little with a captivating smile and say, "here's looking at you, babe." lol I wish, I live out in the sticks where men are men and work hard for a living and women make sandwiches in the kitchen. lol I kid, but it is a little backwards here compared to other places I've been. I know for sure they wont know whan an ecig is, and I know for sure the police don't know what an ecig is here either if they decide to get them involved (they gave me a half hour questioning on whether or not I do or sell drugs when I had my ego-T out just walking down the street one day which was really fun... ) They're not the type to learn anything so the next police car rolling by will likely stop me again if they catch my lavatube steaming away. I also know that it's highly unlikely anyone else will use an ecig, ask me about using an ecig or do anything but complain or rib me for it. Just the way it is here but that's cool It helps to be a vape ninja so I can stealth vape wherever anyway I don't feel like it's worth the hassle. I'd sooner stand outside for 5 minutes for some peace (even though it's -12 right now ) than stay inside with a bunch of people who'd likely be getting on my nerves. It's like hen/stag party central here for some reason and they're so loud I feel so old before my time So my line is, "Yeah it's something like 4 packs of rolos in my pocket, I'm not quite that happy to see ya."

Just asked in Costa Coffee if I could vape, manageress looked at me strangely so I explained it was an electronic cigarette and that there would no smoke, just a vapor, and that the vapor did not contain any nasties that were in cigarettes. Tried to hand a card over, but she said "don't need it" wow result!
