Hi kirsty My orders are already in and sitting with me I have 2 SD keyrings, a Riva 1100 about 15 bottles of juice, driptips, lr and sr cartomisers and numerous other stuff. I'm just biding my time for a few more days Spent the last two weeks at least spending a good couple of hours on here (other vaping forums are available i'm legally contracted to point out lol) reading posts, watching vids and asking questions to get it right. Hopefully. My weekend, this weekend, will involve steeping cartos ready for next week, whilst probably asking silly questions that the good folk on here will answer i hope. but still a bit unsure about some things but hopefully i'll get there

I understand your hesitancy whufc - I hope you get as big a surprise as I did when I started. I took to it immediately and haven't smoked since and I didn't even intend to give up!
Obviously not everyone takes to it like that, but most find they can at least taper off the cigs like kirsty is doing. I think it depends to some extent on finding the right juice for you. I was lucky in picking one that I still use much of the time.

Stick with it and it gets better. Yeah I have faith! Its quite weird though mmm whats that taste ohh its blah, actually I think I am going to get some apple on the go I have a wee bit left from my first purchase and a fresh carto If it's any help, it took me about a month to get tobacco free after starting vaping. I was on about 10g of rolling baccy per dy, but from day 1 of vaping, that dropped right down. Carried on for a few weeks on 2-3 rollies per day, and then one day I just didn't want them any more - they tasted horrible. For about the next six weeks I still got the craving to torch one up - there is a deep psychological attachment to that action of rolling and lighting a fag and taking that first drag (with me anyway ), but now even that is gone. I honestly thought I'd never give up smoking, but e-cigs made it easy for me.

Dom, I smoked 12.5 mg of rolling baccy a day, sometimes more if I was stressed. When I gave up, I went quite a while cold turkey, can't remember how long now, until I got my e. cig. It must be getting on for 6 months since I smoked, maybe more.

Some people reccomend tooth brushing and a swig of mouthwash to help with the taste bud thing, for others some menthol juice will do the job, either might be worth a try As for the cutting down ciggys bit, your doing really well. Took me a week to do it, the last 2 were the hardest for some reason then I just decided today I'll try without them, if I want them I can have them and I managed just fine without. Took a while to stop reaching for the cig packet and reach for the Riva instead though lol. Some folks cut right down to only 2 or 3 a day and find thats enough for them. Be honest with yourself is my advice, as a smoker I only smoked 20 a day and if hubby isn't close by I admit up to 25 lol If you feel you still need those last 2 a day then have them. Don't put pressure on yourself to do something you aren't ready to do yet. Remember you have gone from 20 a day to 2 a day that's 18 a day you havent had and a hell of an acheivement in anyones book. You know yourself better than anyone and when it was me, if I thought I couldn't have another ciggy I'd of dug my heels in and wanted more, now I can have one if I want one or I wont if I don't. Just turns out that today I dont happen to want one

finding the right juice that hits the spot is so important... once you have found that and discover you prefer to vape then the battle transition is complete

Sorry to hijack your progress thread Kirsty, but I'm also a new vaper and last few days I'm really struggling with the juices tasting synthetic. Changing carto's and trying out my different juices isn't resolving it, everything tastes and even smells chemically. Even when I'm eating or drinking the new saliva in my mouth feels like I've just rinsed my mouth with a perfumed mouth wash. I really couldn't stand the smell or taste of menthol cigs, but willing to get some juice if this helps. I'm going to stick this out, but let me know how you get on and hope this goes soon.

Tourmaline no worries about hijacking my thread its a starting point for discussion. All my juices taste great at moment including a tobacco one that I have taken Perpy's advice on and perked it up a bit with menhol better than I anticipated. Also waiting on some cinnamon arriving hopefully today so hopefully next time my taste buds go for a wander I'll be prepared. Good news is it only lasts a couple of days bad news my gums feel s bit funny but maybe I've just been reading this forum too much

This happens to me every few months, just try and stick with it and it will pass (but at first it was a bit depressing). A good strong menthol is my answer to it now - just for a couple of days.

If you don't have ay menthol Tourmaline, try a swig out with some actual mouthwash. It works for some when the tastebuds go for a wander. I think it shocks them back to working lol

Thanks for the advice everyone, I can pinch my daughters mouthwash for the time being and get some more next time I'm shopping. I think the taste issue maybe related to some other issues I've been experiencing and would appreciate if this is common from people who are knowledgeable with vaping. From day 3 of vaping, my nose felt very stuffy and sensitive, fast forward to the present and it now feels like someone has rammed 2 sharp pencils up my nose. I'm not a snotty kind of person and only need to blow my nose when I've got a cold, but it feels so blocked up, I just feel I have to blow it. I don't suffer from nose bleeds, but each time I blow my nose, there's a small amount of fresh blood on the tissue. This is happening on a daily basis, on both PG or VG only. I wasn't overly concerned, thinking the vapour is drying my nasal cavity, making it dry and it's only small capillaries. Regarding the taste, perhaps some of this blood may be trickling down the back of my throat and making that metalic, crap taste in my mouth. My lips have gone very dry, which I gather is normal, but I've also had an ulcer on the tip of my tongue and the roof of my mouth and throat felt very scratched. I'm careful to wipe any eliquid off my hands with a tissue, but I've noticed tiny bumps with tiny pin prick brown dots and my skin is peeling mainly on my index fingers and thumbs, but also on my palms. Does any of this sound familiar? I'm wondering have I being a little bit careless handling the ejuice, or I'm thinking if it's peeling the skin off my hands, then that explains why I'm in frigging agony with my nose. I haven't been able to vape the last few days, only letting the vapour in my mouth and not exhaling through my nose. Been looking for info on allergic reactions or adverse symptoms to ejuice - but can't find much, (which is a good sign,) only that approx 2% of peeps can be allergic. I'll be frigging screaming if I'm in the minority here. Did read some woman had similar sinus probs due to her coconut allergy which was used in the VG liquid. I'm not allergic to anything except penicillin, I can eat and drink what I like and able to smoke any amount on a night out with any irritation. We don't get a list of ingredients in the ejuice, ie flavourings, colourings etc. and although I'm sure the vender would supply if I asked, but I don't know how helpful this would be, as I would be none the wiser on what is irritating me. ??? I hope anyone reading this isn't put off vaping, because I'm not going to give up without exhausting all avenues. I'm looking at the bigger picture and putting things into perspective. These problems pale in comparison to the deterimental effects of smoking. I've ordered from a few different vendors and will give the menthol a try - I remain positive and hopeful things will improve and would appreciate if anyone is familiar with my situation. Thanks all.

It seems when people give up nasties and switch to e-cigs that they get a series of symptoms that are very similar to a cold/flu/virus most find this disappears after a few days. I think it's our bodies re-adjusting and purging all those nasty chemicals we inhaled. I had a very sore mouth, similar to what Prepareathome has been experiencing and a "cold". Stick with it as I said it should pass in a few days. I reckon when you smoke nasties the poisons in your saliva help to kill viruses you may otherwise pick up. When you stop the nasties at first you are more susceptible but your body will re-adjust. Drink plenty of water, eat fruit to help your body re-adjust. my 2p worth.
