Kicked out of pub for vaping in York!

Hi All and thank you Chrissie for inviting me to join and making me aware of this forum - seems these forums are popping up all over!

My name is Fletch, from York in the UK. relatively new to vaping but already had an experience I wish to share where I was asked to leave a pub for vaping having already discussed the e-cig with the bar man whilst ordering a drink. They allowed us to finish our first drinks, buy a second round then ask us to leave straight after (not before getting a refund for the second round I might add). Lol, as a forum, we where one of the first in the UK, started off as an eBay group over 3 years ago

I'm just so pleased you took what happened to you to the press. Wish there was some way of commenting on that article though.

Yes, not sure why they didn't allow comments. You could always email them and ask why? Following on from that, a well known womans magazine has paid my mother a fee for exclusive rights to produce an article in their publication. That may also help to educate people so watch this space! I will keep you updated!

Thanks Anne, and yes it was the first time so quite shocked and more so, just embarrased. The pub was full and I have never been asked to leave a pub before for anything in my life. People were staring and you could hear conversations go quiet as we were asked to leave. Will never frequent a Yates's again if I can help it!

In future, I will make a point of asking before vaping, even though we did vape at the bar and talk to the bar man about it as he poured our drinks. Maybe I need to be more explicit in asking permission?!

I'm not at all surprised you all felt embarrassed And I would have thought getting permission from the barman would have sufficed.

I've shot off an email to the reporter of the article, mainly thanking her for it & giving her a link to this forum in case she wants to look into e-cigs further.

Off to check that thread out Anne - don't go out much myself, but the very few places I've asked if it's OK to vape, had puzzle reactions until I've demonstrated my e-cig

Fletch, just out of interest, where you all using something like egos/Rivas, as in the pic in the article, or ciggie lookalikes?

I am not pictured, that's my sister and mother. My mum has a Totally Wicked Tornado tank, my sister has a Firebrand Diablo Falcon. On the day we were ejected, we all had the Totally Wicked variety, which do not produce as much vape :-)

Hi and welcome Fletch. sorry you had to go through that but happy the article was written so that landlords can take note and maybe do a bit of self educating. I gotta say tho their excuse is one i have heard a few times. people know smoking is prohibited so its unlikely they will spark up after seeing you vape. what is more likely is they will see you and become curious to what you are 'smoking' ...plus even if they did spark up then the barman can then go on and do his kicking out on them

Yes, I did think they were picking on the wrong people. He actually said 'There are people lighting real cigs because they think you are smoking'. We asked to show us where they were and he replied 'That is no concern of yours'. So, not sure if that was true, he had already kicked them out or if he just made it up.
