Welcome Fletch and I'm sorry you had to experiance this Hopefully the person who asked you to leave has seen the article and is feeling even more embarrassed than you now. (maybe stay away from wetherspooons too as they can be a bit funny too I belive) Happy Birthday to your family members that were celebrating and I do hope it didn't ruin their special occasion to much. I also belive that noone else had sparked up a real ciggy, even in a crowded bar as an ex smoker you would of smelt it as soon as they thought about it lol. Good luck with the new feature and please do let us know when its out so we can take a look

hi fletch and co. dont get me wrong here im not saying you were in any way in the wrong. i do have some sympathy for this woman as she is just an employee and she obviously see it as potentially causing lots of problems with even just having to explain to people what you are doing. it really is not in her jurisdiction to let vapers carry on vaping and we all know how quick people with too much drink in them can react. i really dont get into the politics of vaping but really pub owners or pub chains should be heavily targeted, a pub is the one place in the country where a vast amount of people want too smoke without having to trot outside every 10 mins, at least 10% of pubs closing imo is due to the smoking ban. i am not saying vaping will save there pubs but it will obviously help rather than hinder. there are just too many people who have never even seen an ecig and the easiest way for vendors or the ecig lobbyists to get people to be aware is via a pub. i know there are stickers to give to landlords and trog even offered free SDs to landlords to try some time back, but the ecig committees should talk to the vendors and get the breweries involved. can you imagine if they took off in pubs there would be anarchy if the powers that be tried to ban vaping. maybey these people are being lobbied but ive yet to see any real evidence of it making a difference. pubs to me should jump at the FREE opportunity to get/keep customers its a no brainer.

There is a very real issue here, though. Fletch has said that hey were using eGo type e-cigs, which is fine - they're not easily mistaken for real cigarettes. Unfortunately, though, many vendors insist on selling pretty damned convincing looky-likeys, complete with red end (the "cherry) and in ordinary cigarette livery. Many establishments are only aware of that kind of e-cig, and take the view that, as the night wears on, a less than sober client may well mistake a looky-likey for a real fag, and thus be tempted to spark up - this isn't helped at all by a lot of licensed premises getting the ashtrays out after official closing time (it happens all over the place).
There is no easy answer, unfortunately - it needs a large, well-organised and targeted campaign of education, in consort with written confirmation from the Environmental health folks that they will not prosecute any landlord who allows vaping and unwittingly has some numpty spark up a real one due to the confusion. Thats because a landlord or licensee who, even unwittingly, allows someone to spark up faces a pretty hefty fine - something which, in my view, is all wrong.

Welcome Fletch sorry to read about what happened, it must have been very emarassing :-[ It was the thought of being able to vape in pubs that first got me interested in getting an e-cig, not that I go out often but you do get sick of freezing outside. I don't think i'll chance it now, i'll just go outside with the smokers, perhaps i can convert some

I know someone who works in Yates in my home town.I was told the bar manager saw someone using a 'looky-likey' e-cig and they were told if it didn't look like a cigarette they would be ok to use it.I must admit to using mine in there and no-one said anything.

I only spoke to Kate for the interview before it was published, not spoke to her since and certain my mum and sister haven't either. Did you get a response from the email you sent?

Hello & welcome Fletch . . . sorry to hear of your experience. There's so much ignorance surrounding ecigs and their usage!
