The road to work is a long (7 mile or so) windy, single-lane carriageway with 50 and national speed limit areas, and it'll catch you out if you don't know the road. Which happened this week to someone sadly. It was in the local paper : here.I saw this when driving in to work on Thursday morning. Apparently a car and lorry were involved. The crash happened at 7.45 AM, and the road still wasn't clear at 3 PM, though it was done when I went home at 4.30. Car was still there on Friday morning, in a ditch by the road, front end bashed to buggery. No fatalities thankfully. Stay safe out there guys and remember, if you are unfamiliar with the road, take your time.

Driving down the work road would scare me shitless spaniel if my significant other/kids/pets were distracting me. I vape in the car (of course) and even then, there are stretches of the road which are No Toots while negotiating them and looking ahead for other traffic. These country roads are notorious for catching out people distracted or asleep at the wheel... when I was commuting up and down the M1 every day, it was a lot less demanding, unless some eejit was around who decided to tailgate you (yes those asshats still exist) or wanted to duck and weave in between all 3 lanes to get a few hundred yards ahead.

I heard a young lady on the radio (Wednesday?) saying how she was disabled for life after bring hit by a motorist who was using a mobile phone. Apparently, according to a Police (?) spokesperson people don't just use phones, they do facebook and surf the internet. Maybe it's really time for 2 strikes and you're out. Banned on the second offense. Maybe a 2 week suspension straight off. ?? Maybe I'm wrong, but when people say "drink driving has come down because it's become socially unacceptable".. I say d.d. has come down because people don't want to lose their license to be frank.

We had a customer in this week who was joking about how he was dripping whilst doing 80 on the motorway... at least I hope he was joking!

I fear that this sort of thing is going to be more prevalent, since with internet-enabled wristwatches (thanks Apple, short sighted pillocks) and other online devices (always-on alerts from your home in case the cat needs feeding?) interrupting the process of ... commandeering several tons of metal at speed in a built up area or one that is full of twists and turns, people with brains that shrink exponentially compared to the number of devices that inject information to their heads will cause the rest of us to collide with them and, of course, it'll be contested. "M'lud, the defendant was only checking Facebook while making up and looking at their Google Maps to make sure they were on the right road". /rant over

Disclaimer of sorts : yes I do use Maps, the Android app (therefore : google). It's on my mobile. When I do need to use it though, I turn the volume up to max, turn the radio off, and *listen* my way to the destination thanks to Siri, or whoever the Android equivalent is. The phone is rested where it won't move, which for my car is between the gearstick and the mini-glovebox (which stores spare supplies of ejuice, hooray!). So yes I'm connected, but unlike the drivers who bash into people while staring at a bloody mobile, I'm not *disconnected*

I do take my time, then I get lost, then I suffer road rage at my car for getting me lost! Me getting lost is a requirement now. If I end up where I'm meant to be first go, I worry why I didn't end up getting lost!

There's a girl at work (lovely lass, god bless her) who drives her farty Ford egg car at. No. More. Than. 40. all the way down the 7 mile road, even the national speed limit parts. Now, that's fine as far as it goes, but the temptation (which I've succumbed to) is to hammer down and overtake... but only if you know the road. Slow drivers on those roads should think ahead, if they don't speed up, someone not knowing the road, who's a bit thick and in a hurry (cue : BMW driver) will try to pull ahead on the bend... and end up a head on. Please guys, when there is a queue of people developing behind you, shouldn't you try to go a *wee* bit faster?

Maybe those that are "A bit thick and in a hurry" should set off earlier so they're not in a hurry? If they don't.... Natural selection. "speed limit" has TWO words!
