If you want to continue after your free trial, do nothing. Your membership will automatically continue and we will charge the payment method you used when you signed up £49.00 for the next year and annually after that. If you prefer, you can choose "do not auto upgrade" before the initial charge, or "do not auto renew" before any renewal charge in Your Account and your payment method won't be charged for the next year. You can always request a refund of the most recent charge if your benefits have not been used in the new term. If we are unable to charge your preferred payment method, we will charge another payment method we have on file for you.
Taken from my Prime confirmation email. They have probably changed the wording since 2012 when I signed up for a trial of Prime (liked it, used it, still have it), if only to update the price, but I'm struggling to see how Amazon could have made the fact that charges are applied after the free trial any clearer.
There are plenty of sites out there looking to con people, Amazon isn't one of them.

Its fairly obvious you are signing up for a free trial of amazon prime. You must have missed it somehow. I did buy prime - and for me, as a regular user of amazon, it's great for free one day delivery (on eligible things). I haven't used any of the other things you get though. I too find it pretty obvious. And as a regular user, invaluable. Heck, they even deliver on a Sunday. And the instant video is a welcome bonus too for only a £25 increase in yearly cost. I wouldn't be without it to be fair.
