vicuk It depends what ohms you want to use. Thinner wire has higher ohms. Larger diameter coil has higher ohms as the total length of wire is longer, same as more wraps.

Have a play around with www.steam-engine.org/coil.asp?r=1.7&dia=0.25&id=2.5&ll=10 to find which gauge wire you need for your preferred ohms. Adjust coil diameter, wire gauge,number of wraps etc till you find what you need.

Oh, and thinner wire is not as easy to work with.
