I wouldn't recommend upgrading to a new Microshaft operating system until they have released at least ONE service pack, let someone else iron out the problems first

Hasn't been released yet, still in beta (aka Technical Preview). I tend to stick to Q's suggestion with the Windows OSes and wait for the first service pack.

Reluctanly left XP and went to Win 8,,,,,hated it! what were M'soft thinking?
Now both PC's are on Win 7, it works well.
I would now be very cautious about buying any new system from them, and will hang on to Win 7 untill they stop supporting it.

Its supposed to be a free update for anyone on 7, 8 and 8.1 for the first year of its release.
To be honest 8.1 is not that bad once you get used to it. Boot straight to the desktop and disable the auto charm bar.

Think the problem I and many had with Win 8 was that it was to much of a change, where previous system upgrades were progressive and easy to adapt to. I was not prepared to spend many hours learning a new system nor will be in future.
Windows is an amassing system, but for me, it is just a tool to access what I'm interested in.

Boot straight to the desktop and disable the auto charm bar. Windows 8.1 was definitely a lot better than 8 though still had problems. It was always reckoned that windows odd number releases were the ones to go for so a strange decision to jump from 8.1 to 10 and miss out the 9.

TBH I haven't liked Windows 8 at all, much preferred 7. I hope 10 is a big improvement.
I'm thinking of getting a MacBook Pro, then the Microsoft PC will only be used on a rare occasion.

My laptop running XP is on its last legs and is limping along waiting for Windows 10 to be available but in view of the comments regarding waiting till the first update I might be better getting 8 and downgrading to 7. When I got this laptop Vista was the system on the go at the time and I did not want it so I found a company who were offering a new laptop with the old OS ie XP. I have always liked XP and find it easy to use whereas a friend has 8 and I find it VERY user unfriendly.
Sorry if this sounds like the ramblings of a madman
